[[Daenerys Targaryen]] sees Qotho with Khal [[Drogo]] when she comes to [[Drogo's manse]] in [[Pentos]].{{ref|AGOT|3}} As a gift at [[wedding of Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen|their wedding]], Qotho gives a tall, double-curved [[dragonbone]] bow.{{Ref|AGOT|11}}

Qotho is cruel to [[Doreah]] and [[Irri]], two of Daenerys's handmaids.{{ref|AGOT|36}}

When [[Viserys Targaryen]] bares [[steel]] during a feast in [[Vaes Dothrak]] and threatens Daenerys, Drogo orders his [[bloodrider]]s to seize him. Qotho pins Viserys while the others disarm him.{{Ref|AGOT|46}} 

Qotho mocks Daenerys when she suggest that captured [[Lhazareen]] become wives in Drogo's ''[[khalasar]]'' and be treated gently by his riders. He unsuccessfully recommends that [[Mirri Maz Duur]] be killed for being a ''[[maegi]]''.{{ref|AGOT|61}}

After the fevered Drogo falls from [[Drogo's stallion|his horse]], Daenerys wants his ''khalasar'' to make camp. A furious Qotho reluctantly obeys her command to bring Mirri. When Qotho learns that Drogo's wound has festered, he wants Mirri to be tortured. Qotho threatens Daenerys as well, but Ser [[Jorah Mormont]] stands by her.{{ref|AGOT|64}}

Daenerys agrees with Mirri's plan to use [[bloodmagic]] to save Drogo's life. Drogo's outraged bloodriders try to stop the ceremony, however. [[Quaro]], part of Daenerys's ''[[khas]]'', is quickly cut down by Qotho in the ensuing fight. Qotho next faces Jorah, who is armored in chainmail. Qotho is able to wound the slower [[knight]], but his ''[[arakh]]'' catches on Jorah's hip. Jorah cuts Qotho's forearm and then slashes apart the bloodrider's face.{{Ref|aGoT|64}}
