The '''Disputed Lands''' is a region of southwestern [[Essos]]. It has long been contested between the [[Free Cities]] of [[Lys]], [[Myr]], and [[Tyrosh]], often involving skirmishes and small wars.

What is now called the Disputed Lands became a waste during the [[Century of Blood]] after the [[Doom of Valyria]].{{ref|ADWD|14}} [[Volantis]] conquered [[Lys]] and [[Myr]], ruling the cities for two generations. [[Pentos]] supported [[Tyrosh]] when that city came under attack from Volantis, however, and Lys and Myr rose in rebellion. The [[Storm King]], [[Argilac Durrandon]], led a host from the [[stormlands]] to the Disputed Lands and defeated the Volantene army threatening Myr. The [[Sealord of Braavos]] supported a Lysene exile with a hundred ships. [[Aegon I Targaryen|Aegon Targaryen]], [[Lord of Dragonstone]], joined the alliance against Volantis and burned the Volantene fleet threatening Lys with his dragon, [[Balerion]].
