Lemore's identity is under debate, even in the text, where Tyrion Lannister finds her extremely mysterious. She claims to be a septa, but shows little shame, and has stretchmarks on her belly that imply she has given birth. Lemore even states that she is hiding her identity. Furthermore, Lord Jon Connington occasionally thinks of her, and sometimes addresses her, as "Lady Lemore".

Readers have ventured multiple theories about Lemore's true identity.

Tyene Sand's mother

Some readers believe Lemore is the mother of Tyene Sand, a septa seduced by Oberyn Martell. Lemore is a septa who has given birth before, as evidenced by the stretchmarks on her belly seen by Tyrion Lannister. She is also roughly in her mid 40's, and Tyene is in her early 20's, which would lend further support to the theory.

Evidence against

Tyene Sand has golden hair. Oberyn Martell and Lemore both have dark hair, making it unlikely that their daughter would have light hair. It is possible that Lemore dyes her hair to further conceal her identity, but that seems unnecessarily cautious. Further, if Lemore were Tyene's mother, it would be strange for her not to have communicated with her daughter or anyone else back in Dorne to give support to Aegon Targaryen's legitimacy.

Mellario

Another possibility is that Lemore is actually Lady Mellario, the estranged Norvoshi wife of Doran Martell. Lady Lemore is a handsome woman with an outgoing and sexually uninhibited personality, like Arianne Martell; Mellario herself is described as full of life, especially in her youth, by a semi-canon source. In addition, Lady Lemore has brown hair (and possibly brown eyes), like Quentyn Martell.

Evidence against

It would be unusual for a woman from Norvos to pose as a septa, or to have extensive knowledge of the Faith of the Seven; furthermore, Tyrion doesn't notice any accent in Lemore's Common Tongue, which would also be unusual for a person born in Essos; also, it would be strange for her not to have communicated with Doran or anyone else in Dorne to give support to Aegon's legitimacy. However, it cannot be ruled out that Melario converted to the Faith and acquired a perfect pronunciation of the language during her twenty or so years she spent in Westeros; furthermore, Mellario may have taken a vow of secrecy, or her goal may be actually to take revenge on her estranged husband, by taking credit away from him of placing a Targaryen on the Iron Throne.

Ashara Dayne

Another speculation is that Lemore is actually Ashara Dayne, former companion to Princess Elia Martell. It is theorized that Ashara did not in fact commit suicide after delivering a stillborn daughter and receiving her dead brother's sword from Eddard Stark, but went to aid Elia's son Aegon in Essos.

Evidence against

When observing Lemore on the Shy Maid, Tyrion Lannister never makes note of her eye colour, which, if she were Ashara, would be very notable, as Ashara's eyes were described as being a "haunting violet" colour. And again, it is strange that Ashara did not contact the Martells to assert Aegon's legitimacy, or reveal herself when Jon Connington sent a letter to beg for their aid.
