::It's the amount of the prize though that is out of proportion. By the standards of the national debt, 40 or 20K would be enough to buy your own army, fleet or a decent sized fiefdom. Orders of magnitude
Very interesting to see these mentions of currency listed together because they actually seem inconsistent on the part of GRRM. If the Kingdom was 6 million in debt (a colossal sum) this doesn't equate with the Hand's Tourney having a prize purse of 90,000 all up. That's basically paying 1.5% of the national debt as a prize. Like someone in America being given about $50 billion to win a sports competition. Likewise the cost of the Lyseni pirate prince also seems way too high when measured against the national debt in total. --Crackclaw 21:09, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
