Outer yard of the Red Keep
The outer yard of the Red Keep, also called the outer ward, is a yard in the Red Keep.
Layout
The outer yard is found near the main gate of the Red Keep and near the serpentine steps.[1][2][3]
History
Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and her spouse, Prince Daemon Targaryen, landed in the outer yard of the Red Keep during the fall of King's Landing.[4]
Recent Events
A Storm of Swords
Tyrion Lannister and his squire Podrick Payne walk amid the Tyrell canvas and silk pavilions in the outer yard during their walk to the Tower of the Hand to visit Tyrion's father, Lord Tywin.[2]
Queen Cersei Lannister details the plans for King Joffrey's wedding feast, where the middle and outer wards would be tented in silk for those who could not be accommodated inside the Great Hall.[5]
Tyrion's trial by combat between Prince Oberyn Martell and Ser Gregor Clegane is held in the Red Keep's outer yard, where the Mountain smashes the head of the Red Viper with his bare hands.[3]
A Feast for Crows
During the wedding of Tommen I Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell, an intoxicated Cersei, who had fifty pots of wildfire from the Alchemists' Guild placed in the Tower of the Hand, interrupts the feast to have the attendees accompany her outside to the outer yard, so that Lord Hallyne of the alchemists can burn the tower.[6]
