House Category

Wait, don't add any more house pages to categories. I noticed that you decided to create for each house a category and add there its vassal houses. I can do that for you for all houses together(Only house entries).--Mor 16:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Every house has Template:Noble House, with a 'Overlord' variable, I can adjust the the template, to auto add it its own category and its overlord category. Separating the house and the vassal houses from the usual characters there, thus helping you out in this project you started. --Mor 16:29, 29 March 2012 (UTC) Mind you it will not be perfect, the new categories would still need to be linked and I cant really do it for assets(like Clegane's Keep). Anyway, if you interested and/or want some specific adjustment just drop me a message, it would take me a couple of minutes todo.--Mor 16:32, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Subcategories

I noticed you added some of the "Great Bastards" to the main "House Targaryen" category. You don't have to. "Category: Great Bastards" works as as a subcategory to "Category: house Targaryen". --Dimadick 17:12, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Gotcha! Nittanian 18:14, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Category house Fowler

It was not possible to move the cayegory page but deleting the old one and creating a new category page leads to the same result. Thanks for the notice,Scafloc 15:02, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

For the Wells houses I made House Wells a disambiguation page and made separate pages for each house with the region between parentheses to make it clear that the region is not part of the name. Also made separate categories for each again with the region between parentheses. Thanks again! Scafloc 20:16, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Moving articles

Hi I noticed you moved some articles and created new ones. For instance Jenny of Oldstones. However this the title of this article is incorrect. The article should name should be the name of the character without titles and aliases. This is inline with the standards of wikipedia which we decided to follow. The adding of "(Oldstones)" was only done to make a distinction with other characters called Jenny. As a redirect will be left with the original title this not a big point but it is something to keep in mind before deciding to move other pages. If you want to propose a new article name policy could you do so on the forum? Regards,Scafloc 18:58, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Well, Wikipedia's standard naming policy is WP:COMMONNAME, by which articles are titled with the subject's most common, recognizable name. Jenny, most commonly known as "Jenny of Oldstones", should therefore fall under that title, not "Jenny (Oldstones)". When in doubt, I would expect articles to match GRRM's listing in the appendices (although those have occasional mistakes). Nittanian 19:07, 22 August 2013 (UTC)
The part "of Oldstones" is not a part of her name. So it should not be included. Again if you do not agree feel free to discuss it on the board.Scafloc 20:32, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Deleting vs. Moving

My bad I couldn't figure out how to move it, I deleted and replaced House Durrendon too. --RumHam 15:50, 17 April 2014 (UTC)

Details

Why did you remove the "excess" detail? This wikia is about detail. Lwaxanadeanna 18:39, 21 April 2014 (UTC)

Small Council

Hi, I noticed you deleted the [[:Category:Members of the Small council]] and created a new category: Category:Members of the small council. However "Small" as well as "Council" are parts of the name so it should be with a capitical. See for instance Privy Council of the United Kingdom, Supreme Court of the United States or White House; the adjective and the noun are part of the name and thus are with a capital. Scafloc 15:03, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

George R. R. Martin does not capitalize "small council" in his books. It is a descriptive name, not a formal, capitalized title. For instance, from A Game of Thrones-Chapter 20: "And so Ned had come striding into the council chambers, bone-tired and dressed in borrowed clothing, to find four members of the small council waiting for him." Or from A Clash of Kings-Chapter 17: "Within three years of his coming to court, he was master of coin and a member of the small council, and today the crown's revenues were ten times what they had been under his beleaguered predecessor ..." World

Hi, you're a lot more experienced than I am. Please do not hesitate to point out anything I should refine or rework in my writing now that we're able to add World stuff. --The Dragon Demands 03:28, 27 November 2014 (UTC)

House Arryn

Hey Nittanian, can I ask you why you took apart the history of House Arryn, and even leaving out a lot of info that was in there? Dade 12:32, 15 January 2015 (UTC)

"masterly" Houses

Wait...there's no such thing as a "masterly" House? That always confused me when I saw it on here. Why was it here in the first place?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:07, 23 June 2015 (CDT)

Comes from Tallharts and Glovers bearing "Master of" titles. It would also help you understand why the Greatjon, a High Lord, is insulted when Robb tells him Galbart Glover will command the vanguard.--Gonzalo (talk) 12:26, 17 July 2015 (CDT)
That's a common misconception, actually. "And when Lord Umber, who was called the Greatjon by his men and stood as tall as Hodor and twice as wide, threatened to take his forces home if he was placed behind the Hornwoods or the Cerwyns in the order of march, Robb told him he was welcome to do so. "And when we are done with the Lannisters," he promised, scratching Grey Wind behind the ear, "we will march back north, root you out of your keep, and hang you for an oathbreaker." The Glovers and Tallharts being of a different rank is still conjecture at this point. Nittanian (talk) 13:23, 17 July 2015 (CDT)

New War of the Five Kings articles

To complete the new War of the Five Kings articles:

  • The Lannister fight with the Night's Watch recruits nearby the Gods Eye.
  • Sow's Horn is attacked by Lannister men under the command of Amory Lorch (presumably around the time Lorch fights Yoren and the Night's Watch recruits), and later by Karstark men looking for Jaime Lannister.
  • The unnamed Riverlands sept in which the Brotherhood fights the Bloody Mummers.--Gonzalo (talk) 19:57, 31 July 2015 (CDT)
I added an article for the battle at the burning septry! Nittanian (talk) 14:55, 6 August 2015 (CDT)

House Manderly guards

I think this article is unneccessary. Are we going to have an article for each house guard?--Gonzalo (talk) 15:28, 11 February 2016 (CST)

You're probably right, since we don't have as much detail or known guards like the major houses. Nittanian (talk) 15:30, 11 February 2016 (CST)
House Tyrell, on the other hand, does deserve its article.--Gonzalo (talk) 15:45, 11 February 2016 (CST)

Turncloaks in the War of the Five Kings

Trying to come up with the full list for this new category. Your help or opinions would be appreciated.--Gonzalo (talk) 19:08, 11 February 2016 (CST)

I have answered in my own talk page.--Gonzalo (talk) 01:39, 13 February 2016 (CST)

House Bolton of Winterfell

Come to think about it, there's no House Greyjoy of Deepwood Motte or House Greyjoy of Winterfell.--Gonzalo (talk) 22:36, 19 February 2016 (CST)

"House" for Braavosi families

Why do we use the "House XXXXXXX" formula for Braavosi families? Braavosi don't have a system of nobility that we know of. And In Slaver's Bay is "House of XXXXXX".--Gonzalo (talk) 20:14, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Braavos does have nobles according to TWOIAF: "Braavos is a city renowned for its architecture: ... the towers of the keyholders and noble families ..." Jon also considers sending "Arya" (Alys Karstark) to live with Braavosi nobles in ADWD Jon IX. The nomenclature is admittedly a toss-up. "House of X" has only been used with Slaver's Bay (Ghiscari) houses IIRC, while Westerosi houses of Valyrian descent like the Celtigars, Targaryens, and Velaryons use "House X". TWOIAF also uses "House Targaryen" when discussing the family's involvement in the Century of Blood prior to Aegon's Conquest. Nittanian (talk) 03:09, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Viserys Targaryen's title

Hi! You changed Viserys's title from King to Prince, citing the AGOT Appendix where he is listed as Prince. However, during the time Viserys spent on Dragonstone with Rhaella (after Aerys's death), he was crowned (as per Rhaella's entry in the app), and both Daenerys and Viserys himself consider him to be king, with Daenerys even correcting Barristan when he calls Viserys "Prince". As well, Illyrio introduces Viserys as "King of the Seven Kingdoms, etc." in Daenerys's first AGOT chapter. So while he never reigned in Westeros, I do think that the title of "King" can appropriately be used for Viserys on his page.--Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 17:57, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

If the article starts with his regal name and title, the article title should be Viserys III Targaryen, right? His entry in the app titles him prince and does not use "Viserys III", however. His family crowned him in exile and he hasn't been recognized by the great houses of the Seven Kingdoms by the time AGOT begins (the timeframe which the wiki uses for the present tense). The ACOK and ASOS appendices clarify that he styled himself Viserys III (though no one in his would-be kingdom recognized him as such). TPATQ also states that Aegon II decreed that Rhaenyra was only a princess, despite her coronation. I think beginning with Prince Viserys Targaryen (his status according to the app and in the appendix of the book he appears in) but also including his stylings (King Viserys III Targaryen, etc.) is a good compromise. Nittanian (talk) 18:59, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Fair enough. But shouldn't the titles listed in the infobox reflect that also then? Perhaps by adding "(self-proclaimed)" behind them? --Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 19:37, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Good call! Nittanian (talk) 19:53, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
Why is the Viserys article titled "Viserys Targaryen" while those of the Blackfyre pretenders do employ dynastic numbering (Daemon I, Maelys I) even though Blackfyre are just as pretenders as Viserys?--Gonzalo (talk) 19:57, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
Yandel uses regnal numbers for them in TWOIAF: "Haegon I Blackfyre", "Daemon II Blackfyre", "Daemon III Blackfyre", "Maleys I Blackfyre", etc, so the wiki articles for these historical figues should follow what is used in available sources. GRRM does not use "Viserys III Targaryen" for him in ASOIAF, and one servant announces him as "the Third of His Name". The wiki takes the start of AGOT as the "present", and AGOT's appendix and the reference app just call him "Viserys Targaryen" while referring to him as a prince. Targaryen campaign articles

I have added two battles of the list in the Targaryen campaign in Slaver's Bay article (Battle at the Horns of Hazzat and Fighting at the Khyzai Pass). I hope you can create the proper articles.--Gonzalo (talk) 20:20, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Infobox for assassinations

I have created an infobox for assassinations ("Template Attackbox" because "Assassinationbox" may be hard to write), you can see it at the Purple Wedding article.--Gonzalo (talk) 21:14, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Pyromancers besides the Alchemists Guild

There is a mention in The World of Ice and Fire of: "The fires of the Fourteen Flames coursing through Valyria, fuel for the pyromancer's magic. There is also mention of pyromancers being present on Asshai. Do you consider this merits an article for the non-Westerosi pyromancers?--Gonzalo (talk) 06:28, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

How should we make the disambiguation? Considering most usages of the term "pyromancer" refers to the Wisdoms of the Alchemists Guild--Gonzalo (talk) 16:46, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

Fighting at Bitterbridge

I have created a stub-article. I hope you can check it out.--Gonzalo (talk) 22:35, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Capitalization

Why do you uncapitalize words that do not need to be uncapitalized? If anything it's utterly incorrect. --Potsk (talk) 15:33, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

When in doubt, we should follow George's usage in the novels. He capitalizes Dorne, for instance, but uses lower case for the westerlands. Nittanian (talk) 16:00, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
I agree that "westerlands" for example shouldn't be capitalized when used in a full sentence, but when it's the only word present in one line it should be capitalized. The same goes for any other word. --Potsk (talk) 17:53, 5 April 2019 (UTC)

House Largent

You created an article for House Largent due to Luthor enoblement by Rhaenyra. Why did you use the template for Houses of unknown region if you considered it as a crownlands house ? --Thomaerys Velaryon (talk) 18:12, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Hey, Thomaerys! I just forgot to update the template used on that page. Nittanian (talk) 18:16, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
