House Otherys is a noble family of Braavos.[1]

History

An Otherys was elected to the office of Sealord of Braavos. His son and a Summer Islander princess had a child, Bellegere Otherys,[2] who became a pirate queen.[3] In 161 AC, Bellegere met Prince Aegon Targaryen when he was sent on a diplomatic mission to Braavos by his cousin, King Baelor I Targaryen. The two started an affair that lasted a decade, and produced three children: Bellenora, Narha, and Balerion Otherys.[1][3]

Bellenora became a courtesan, and used her mother's sobriquet of "The Black Pearl of Braavos" for herself. Bellenora's descendants became courtesans as well, each eventually bearing the title "Black Pearl".[3][4]

A Feast for Crows

Bellegere Otherys, the current Black Pearl of Braavos, purchases three cockles from Cat of the Canals, paying ten times what the cockles are worth. She asks for hot sauce, but Cat does not have any. Meralyn tells Cat that Bellegere is "descended from the dragons", and some of the history of the Black Pearl courtesans from the Otherys family. When Cat returns to the House of Black and White as a novice Faceless Man, she relates this information to the Kindly Man, who confirms it and provides some more details.[3]
