At the Gates of the Moon, during the feast for the tourney for the Brotherhood of Winged Knights, Alayne dances with Harrold, and inquires about his bastards, to which he answers in all honesty. He tells her of his two-year-old daughter Alys Stone, fathered on a House Waynwood servant, Cissy. According to Harrold, childbirth left Cissy "fat as a cow", so Lady Anya Waynwood arranged for her to be married off to one of her men-at-arms. However, Harrold says it is different with Saffron, who he has impregnated with his second child. Alayne is amused by Saffron's name, and Harrold explains that her father is a spice merchant in Gulltown, the richest man in the city, who considers his daughter more precious than gold. Alayne jokingly asks Harrold if he plans to name the child "Cinnamon" if it's a girl, or "Cloves" if it's a boy. Harrold is impressed with Alayne's cleverness, and Alayne tells him if they marry, he will have to send Saffron back to her father.[1]

Quotes

Should we ever wed, you'll have to send Saffron back to her father. I'll be all the spice you'll want.[1]
