Rob, better known as Big Rob, was a peasant in service to House Osgrey during the reign of King Aerys I Targaryen. Squinty Jeyne was his mother.[1]

Appearance and Character

Rob was a big man, but he was a lackwit. He became frightened easily and cried. It was said that he did not know his left foot from his right, or which end of an axe to hold. However, Big Rob fought better when he was angry.[1]

History

Big Rob was among the smallfolk called up by Ser Eustace Osgrey to defend his lands against House Webber when a dispute over the Chequy Water escalated into threats of war. Big Rob was trained for battle by Eustace's sworn swords, Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield and Ser Duncan the Tall. Because several of the recruits had the same first name, Duncan's squire, Egg, suggested that they be called by "village names" to distinguish them. However, because the villages had no names, the men were instead given surnames derived from the crop planted in their village. The men were excited to have been given "lord's names", except for Big Rob, who could not seem to remember whether he was a "Bean" or a "Barleycorn".[1]

During the training, Big Rob was always the first to drop his spear and run, and was chased and dragged back by Bennis, in tears. After the first day of training, Duncan had a nightmare where he saw Big Rob had been gutted, lying dead at the bottom of a grave, and that all the other men had also been killed and he had to bury them.[1]

After Ser Duncan realized that it would be a hopeless fight where all the smallfolk would certainly die, he sent Rob home with the others. As Rob ran off, he stepped on a chicken.[1]

Quotes

Lying there, so still and cold, with a ragged red wound gaping in his belly, he did not look very big at all.[1]

—nightmare of Duncan the Tall

I worked them hard. Drew a little blood off that big lackwit, just to make him mad. He fights better when he's mad.[1]
