The captain of the Swordfish is a ship captain of the royal fleet, in service of King Stannis Baratheon at Dragonstone.[1]

A Clash of Kings
Swordfish, which has the largest ram in Stannis's fleet, is seen by Ser Davos Seaworth in the harbor of Dragonstone.[2][3]
Swordfish is part of the fleet commanded by Ser Imry Florent during the Battle of the Blackwater. To avoid scorpions and spitfires defending the walls of King's Landing, Imry's ships lower their sails and only use oars, but the captain of the Swordfish, who is considered incapable by Davos, leaves the sails up and they are hit by pitch. Despite this, it keeps sailing until it rams an old, rotting hulk filled with jars of wildfire, causing a violent explosion that sets nearly all of Stannis's fleet aflame.[3] Other hulks filled with the aged wildfire also explode, until the entire mouth of the river becomes an inferno. Hundreds of ships and thousands of men burn.[4][5]
A Storm of Swords
Stannis recalls Imry as a fool for not avoiding Tyrion Lannister's trap,[6] possibly because he is unaware of the role that the captain of the Swordfish played in setting off the wildfire chain reaction.
