For clarification of 'chevronel' see this page on wiktionary and this page on wikipedia. For the direction of the chevronel see The Citadel:Heraldry - House Rosby. Scafloc 09:45, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

I am fully aware of the definition of 'chevronel' - as I said, it is a diminutive of the chevron. Why is the depiction at the citadel considered correct when it does not follow the blazon (given as "Three red chevronels on ermine"). There is no mention of inversion or reversal that would make the chevronels point downwards. GRRM is well aware of the use of inversion (as mentioned in the blazons of other houses' arms), so why would he not indicate it here if he envisaged the points in the opposite direction to the norm? If you are aware of the definition than we are agrement that this indicates that the lines should be smaller. So that leaves only the direction. The reason for this is that the heraldy section counts as semi-canon because of the access of Ran and Linda to Martin; most of the work on heraldy is based on his notes.Scafloc 21:54, 13 May 2014 (UTC)
The chevronel is half the width of a chevron, itself supposed to occupy one-fifth of the shield in strictest terms. My depiction has them at about a third of the width of what I would consider to be normal chevron width. In yours they are too thin - that would mean they are blazoned 'couple-closes'. I understand the Citadel stuff originated from Martin, but he would have only given them the blazons, and not sketches of how he imagined the arms. --Eagle of Seagard 00:02, 14 May 2014 (UTC)
