Mawney is a ranger of the Night's Watch.

A Storm of Swords
Mawney is part of the great ranging of the Night's Watch in the lands beyond the Wall. In the aftermath of the fight at the Fist, an Other riding Mawney's dead horse comes upon Grenn, Samwell Tarly, and Small Paul.[1]
A Feast for Crows
Mawney remains at Craster's Keep after the betrayal of its owner, along with eight other former members of the Night's Watch.[2]
A Dance with Dragon
While guiding Bran Stark and his friends toward the cave of the three-eyed crow, Coldhands detects the presence of men in the haunted forest; the ranger hunts them down and kills them with his ravens. Summer, Bran's direwolf, then finds five black-clad bodies in the forest; it is unknown if Mawney is among them. Bran wakes from his skinchanging to find that Coldhands has returned with meat, claiming he found a sow.[3]
