A Clash of Kings

[edit]

After capturing "Reek" (actually a disguised Ramsay Snow), Ser Rodrik Cassel stops by the mill on the Acorn Water while returning to Winterfell. The miller's wife sells hay to Rodrik's party, and the old knight pays attention to her two young sons.[2]

Theon Greyjoy unsuccessfully searches for Bran and Rickon Stark in the wolfswood after they disappear from Winterfell. "Reek" tells Theon he has a feeling that the Stark boys are hiding at the mill, and he secretly presents Theon with the boys' fine clothing he had brought along in a bag. Theon sends the rest of the search party back to Winterfell, except for Reek and three ironborn, Aggar, Gelmarr, and Gynir.[2]

At the mill, "Reek" kills the miller's two sons, and when their mother begs Theon for mercy, Gelmarr cuts her down with one blow of his axe. Theon then presents the youths' bodies as being those of Bran and Rickon to the people of Winterfell. "Reek" kills Aggar, Gelmarr, and Gynir to keep the deception a secret.[3]

Word arrives at Riverrun that Bran and Rickon had been taken at a mill on the Acorn Water and then killed.[4]

Quotes

[edit]

Theon knew the mill. He had even tumbled the miller's wife a time or two. There was nothing special about it, or her.[2]
