A Game of Thrones

The Wind Witch is contracted by Lord Eddard Stark, the Hand of the King, to take his daughters, Sansa and Arya, from King's Landing, as Ned intends to inform King Robert I Baratheon of Queen Cersei Lannister's deceit when the king returns from hunting.[2] Ned instructs Tomard, the captain of the Stark guards, to personally deliver a letter to Stannis Baratheon, Lord of Dragonstone, during the journey to the north.[3] Lord Petyr Baelish betrays Ned, however, and Tom is killed in the throne room before the ship can depart King's Landing.[4]

When Arya is living on the streets of the city, she goes to the river front to investigate stowing away aboard a ship and sees the Wind Witch with guards in the colors of Winterfell guarding it. She is about to go to them when she realizes she knows none of the guards. When the unknown guards notice her, she pretends to be a boy trying to sell them a pigeon she had killed and they tell her to scram.[1]
