A turnkey is a dungeon overseer who is under the command of the undergaoler.^[1]

When Jaime Lannister forces Varys to help him release his convicted brother Tyrion Lannister,^[1] Varys drugs the turnkeys with sweetsleep.^[3]

A Feast for Crows

Boros Blount learns from the gaolers that Tyrion disappeared from the black cells. The Queen Cersei Lannister then orders Boros and Osmund Kettleblack to murder the two turnkeys who fell asleep during Tyrion's escape.^[4]
