Rickard Rowan was the Lord of Goldengrove and the head of House Rowan during the reign of King Maegor I Targaryen and the beginning of the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.[1]

History

In 48 AC, Lord Rowan and Lord Torgen Oakheart marched with Septon Moon against the increasingly brutal King Maegor, defending the septon and his followers when they camped beneath the walls of Oldtown.[2] After the death of King Maegor, Septon Moon continued to denounce the Targaryens and the High Septon. Lord Donnel Hightower refused to take up arms against Moon's followers, with many claiming the real reason was not wishing to offer battle to Lord Rowan and Lord Oakheart. However, the lords were reluctant to offer their armies to the septon when he planned to attack Oldtown itself; Moon was later assassinated with the guards, ending his uprising.[3]

Lord Rickard attended the Golden Wedding in 49 AC, where the king entertained the lords in the intimacy of his solar, encouraging them to speak freely and share their views on the problems of the realm and how they might best be overcome. Lord Rowan found the king gentle and soft-spoken.[1]

Lord Rowan was among those lord whose sisters and daughters were honored by becoming companions to Queen Alysanne Targaryen. In 58 AC, he was present in King's Landing to celebrate the ten year anniversary of King Jaehaerys I coming to the throne.[4]
