A Tyroshi sellsword commands the freeriders of Ser Forley Prester within the Lannister host led by Ser Jaime Lannister during the early stages of the War of the Five Kings. The mercenary comes from Tyrosh,[1] and his given name is unknown.
History
Tyrion Lannister learned some of the tongue of Tyrosh from a sellsword at Casterly Rock,[2] who may have been this sellsword.
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
During the Battle of the Camps, the Tyroshi sellsword and the freeriders under his command in the camp south of the Red Fork dip their banners and defect to the army of northmen and rivermen led by Robb Stark when they see that the other two camps have been overrun. Ser Forley Prester leads the safe retreat of four thousand loyal men.[1]
Behind the Scenes
George R. R. Martin admitted that he forgot about the Tyroshi sellsword in the novels after A Game of Thrones, though he stated the likeliness of Robb Stark having kept most of the freeriders during his incursion into the westerlands as well as the possibility of the Tyroshi, along with some other freeriders, deserting Robb to plunder for themselves. Martin also mentioned that in A Storm of Swords there is a Tyroshi outlaw in the riverlands—Greenbeard of the brotherhood without banners—who may have been a deserter, though he was not sure if he deserted Jaime Lannister or Robb.[3]
