Tywin Frey, affectionately called Ty by his grandmother, is a member of House Frey and is the eldest son of Ser Cleos Frey and Jeyne Darry.

Character

It is not clear if Tywin has been knighted or if he is still a squire.[N 1]

Recent Events

A Storm of Swords

After his father, Ser Cleos Frey, is killed by outlaws near Maidenpool,[3] Tywin becomes the heir of his grandfather, Emmon Frey.[1]

A Feast for Crows

Tywin is first in line to inherit Riverrun after it is granted to Lord Emmon, the head of the new House Frey of Riverrun.[4][1]

During the siege of Riverrun, Ser Jaime Lannister and Lady Genna Lannister discuss her family's new fragile status as Lord of Riverrun. Genna tells him her husband will make a wretched lord but she is hopeful Tywin will make a good lord someday as long as he listens to her advice. To appease his aunt's mind, Jaime proposes that if Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey's unborn child turns out to be a girl, they should marry her to Tywin to strengthen their hold on Riverrun.[4]
