Vaes Khadokh
Vaes Khadokh is a ruined city in Essos, east of the Forest of Qohor, north of the Painted Mountains, and west of the Dothraki sea. It is connected by Valyrian roads to Qohor to the west, Saath to the north, and Vaes Khewo to the east. There are hills to the north and the south.[1] It was originally called Essaria, but it is now known by its Dothraki language name, Vaes Khadokh, meaning City of Corpses.
History
Essaria was a colony of the Valyrian Freehold, but it was destroyed by the Dothraki during the Century of Blood following the Doom of Valyria.[2]
Essaria is remembered as the "Lost Free City". Like the other Free Cities, it had a contract from the Freehold for limited self-governance in local affairs. In its time it prospered from trade with Sarnor to the east.[3]
