Donnel Haigh is a knight from House Haigh. The second son of Ser Leslyn Haigh and Perriane Frey, Donnel has two brothers, Ser Harys and Alyn.[1]
Appearance and Character
While serving as an outrider ahead of the Red Wedding, Donnel Haigh bears a spear and a sword. He wears a surcoat with the pitchfork sigil of House Haigh sewn on it.[3]
Sandor Clegane considers him a fool, as he believes is typical of knights, and someone who considers looking closely at a peasant beneath him.[3]
History
Donnel has been beaten many times in tourneys by Sandor Clegane, who almost killed him in a mêlée.[3]
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
Donnel Haigh is a part of the force led by Roose Bolton that took Harrenhal from Lannister control. He is present when Roose holds a war council with the Freys after news of Stannis Baratheon's defeat by Tywin Lannister in the Battle of the Blackwater reaches the castle. When his elder brother Harys Haigh expresses doubt that Robb Stark would have a chance against Tywin, Harys looks to his brothers and cousins for support.[4][N 1]
A Storm of Swords
Ser Donnel is introduced to Lady Catelyn Stark by Lothar Frey at the Twins on the eve of Lord Edmure Tully's wedding.[5]
While traveling to the Twins, Sandor Clegane and Arya Stark encounter Donnel and his outriders.[3] They manage to trick Donnel with their peasant disguises, claiming they serve Lady Shella Whent. When Arya asks Sandor why Donnel did not recognize him, Sandor tells her it is because knights are fools and it would be beneath him to look twice at some poxy peasants.[3]
A Feast for Crows
When news of the raid on Saltpans reaches the Twins, Donnel rides with his brother, Ser Harys Haigh, and their cousin, Ser Arwood Frey, to the town with a small force to investigate. There they find Ser Quincy Cox sitting behind his walls and Saltpans in ashes.[6]

Arya: How come he didn't know you, then?

Notes
- ↑ Donnel and Alyn Haigh are not explicitly named in this scene. However, since Harys Haigh has only two brothers,[1] the brothers he looks to for support must be Donnel and Alyn.
