Edgar Yronwood was the Lord of Yronwood and the head of House Yronwood during the early reign of King Aerys II Targaryen.[1] He was the father of Lord Ormond Yronwood and the grandfather of Lord Anders Yronwood.[3]
Appearance and Character
Edgar was a huge man of fierce repute and with a short temper.[1]
History
When Prince Oberyn Martell was sixteen, he was found abed with Lord Edgar's paramour. A duel between the two ensued, though only to first blood due to Oberyn's youth and high birth. Both men took cuts. However, while Oberyn soon recovered, Edgar's wounds festered and he died. Afterward it was rumored that Oberyn had poisoned his sword, gaining his nickname of "the Red Viper".[1][3]
To resolve the blood debt between Houses Yronwood and Martell, Doran Martell, the Prince of Dorne, immediately sent his younger brother Oberyn to the Free Cities.[3] Doran also agreed with Lord Ormond Yronwood to have his son, Prince Quentyn Martell, be fostered.[4] Quentyn was thus eventually sent to Yronwood to foster with Lord Anders Yronwood as a sign of trust.[3] This greatly angered Doran's wife, Mellario, however, and contributed to their estrangement and her return to Norvos.[4]
