What to do when you want to add to this page?
  • Is the calculation necessary?
    • Several years of birth or death are specifically stated in the canon work. Is your character not in there? Then he/she is a candidate.
  • Make certain you always put in references when you add something.
  • When you add a calculation, add your results to the character's wiki-page.
  • Does your addition replace the first name underneath a navigation box? Go to the template page to adjust the navigation box, to keep the interlinking up to date.
  • You don't want to add, but you still think a character is missing in the list? Go here and share your thoughts!

In the main series and novellas, George R.R. Martin on most occasions does not state specifically in which year a character has been born or has died. This page lists the calculations to determine such years, years of birth mostly, but also years of death at times, as specific as is possible, for all characters for all this is possible. This information then can be used in articles and serves to give a more complete image of the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.

The following guidelines are used for the calculations:

  1. A character, both male and female, will be at least 12 years old at the birth of his or her first born child, for the following reason: a girl who has had her first flowering (i.e. first menstruation) is considered to be fit for both marriage and consummation of the marriage.[1] Most highborn girls have their first flowering at the age of twelve or thirteen,[2] indicating twelve as the youngest a girl can be for getting pregnant, and, as such, give birth. For boys, the same minimum age is used. Furthermore, we are given the precedence of the age of twelve for both males and females: the daughter of Unwin Peake died in childbirth at the age of twelve,[3] while Viserys II Targaryen impregnated his wife at the age of twelve.[4]
  2. Siblings are assumed to be at least one year apart in age, taking into consideration that a woman who has just given birth will not immediately become pregnant again. This is only when discussing full-blood siblings. For siblings with the same father, but with a different mother, no such recovery period is required.
  3. Where historic works are concerned which have been written by maesters, or sources recited from works written by maesters, it can be assumed that the age of a character stated in a year is the age that character would be turning that year. For example, Maegor I Targaryen was born in 12 AC. In historic works, his age in the year 25 AC will be stated as thirteen (the age he would be turning that year), without the author taking into account whether or not the described event took place before or after Maegor's nameday.[5] This goes for historical works (i.e. The Sons of the Dragon, The Rogue Prince, The Princess and the Queen, Fire & Blood, and The World of Ice & Fire), not for POV-information, like A Game of Thrones and its sequels, or The Hedge Knight, and other tales of Dunk & Egg. Do note that on some occasions, this rule might not apply.
  4. The following minimum ages for pages, squires, and knights are used, based on an overview of known ages:
    1. Boys are considered to be at least six years old when becoming a page.[6]
    2. Boys are considered to be at least eight years old when becoming a squire.[7]
    3. Men are considered to be at least fifteen years old when becoming a knight.[8]
  5. A mother will be no older than ~52 years old at the earliest possibility for the birth of her youngest child, for the following reason: the Westerosi consider the age of forty-two to be "past [a woman's] childbearing years", and forty-four to be "well past her childbearing years",[9][10][11] although women of forty-four have been known to give birth to a child.[10][11] In real-life, the end of a woman's fertile cycle (menopause) occurs at an age of 49-52 on average, giving ~52 as a maximum age for giving birth to a child.

The characters are listed alphabetically, using full names. Maesters (like Aemon), will also be listed alphabetically under their birth names, unless those are not known.

Names that belong to several characters (for example, the name Walder Frey) will be listed alphabetically, but will have their nickname or relations listed in parentheses in accordance with their page name, so they can be distinguished from one another.

For calculations on placings of events, see Calculations of Events.

Eddara Tallhart

Birth

Eddara Tallhart was nine years old in 299 AC.[12]

  • 8 turning 9 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 290 AC
  • 9 turning 10 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 289 AC

No further specifications can be given. Eddara was thus born in either 289 AC or 290 AC.

Eddard Stark

Birth

Eddard Stark is thirty-five years old in 298 AC.[13] That gives Ned two options:

  • 34 turning 35, placing his birth in 263 AC
  • 35 turning 36, placing his birth in 262 AC

In addition, Eddard Stark is known to have been eighteen years old in 281 AC, the Year of the False Spring,[14][15] giving Eddard the same options as above:

  • 17 turning 18, placing his birth in 263 AC
  • 18 turning 19, placing his birth in 262 AC

Eddard Stark was born one year after the birth of his brother, Brandon, who was born in 262 AC.[16] This places Eddard’s birth in 263 AC.

Eddard was thus born in 263 AC.

Death

Eddard Stark was still alive when the Battle of the Whispering Wood was being fought.[17] This battle occurred in 299 AC (see The War of the Five Kings). Since Eddard was still alive during this battle, his death occurred after.

Eddard thus died in 299 AC.

Edgar Yronwood

Death

Edgar Yronwood died shortly after a duel he fought against Prince Oberyn Martell, who, at the time, was sixteen years old.[18][19] Oberyn Martell was born in either 257 AC or 258 AC (see Oberyn Martell). That gives Oberyn the following possible years to have been sixteen years old:

  • If born in 257 AC, Oberyn would be 15 turning 16 in 273 AC
  • If born in 257 AC, Oberyn would be 16 turning 17 in 274 AC
  • If born in 258 AC, Oberyn would be 15 turning 16 in 274 AC
  • If born in 258 AC, Oberyn would be 16 turning 17 in 275 AC

No further specifications can be given. Edgar thus died in either 273 AC, 274 AC or 275 AC.

Edmund Blackwood

Birth

Edmund Blackwood is twelve years old in 300 AC.[20] This gives Edmund the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 288 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC

No further specifications can be given. Edmund was thus born in either 287 AC or 288 AC.

Edmure Tully

Birth

Edmure Tully is the youngest child of Hoster Tully. He is younger than both his sisters, Catelyn and Lysa. Lysa was younger than Catelyn, and was born in 266 AC the earliest (see Lysa Tully). This means that Edmure, being younger than Lysa, cannot have been born before 267 AC. 267 AC is thus Edmure's earliest possible year of birth.

In 282 AC, Edmure was a squire to Brandon Stark in his duel against Petyr Baelish.[21] It is known that, while squire's are usually somewhat older, even boys as young as eight can be a squire.[N 1] This shows that Edmure would have been at least eight years old in 282 AC, placing his birth no later than 274 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Edmure was thus born in or between 267 AC and 274 AC.

Note: There is one potential further clue as to Edmure's year of birth. According to Walder Frey, he had approached Hoster Tully regarding a potential bride for Edmure who was only a few years older ("Years ago, I went to your father and suggested a match between his son and my daughter. Why not? I had a daughter in mind, sweet girl, only a few years older than Edmure, but if your brother didn't warm to her, I had others he might have had, young ones, old ones, virgins, widows, whatever he wanted."),[22] a tale Catelyn later repeats ("Jon Arryn was disinclined to foster his grandsons, and my father refused the offer of one of his daughters for Edmure.").[23] Edmure himself supports that Walder had wanted him to marry one of his daughters ("Frey has wanted me for one of his daughters since the day I was born.").[24]

If Walder indeed specifically meant that he had one of his own daugher's in mind as a potential bride for Edmure, there are two girls who fit the description of "only a few years older than Edmure": Morya Frey (born in 268 AC or 269 AC (see Morya Frey)) and Tyta Frey (born in 269 AC or 270 AC (see Tyta Frey)). If indeed Walder meant one of his daughters, Edmure's range of birth is reduced to "in or between 270 AC and 274 AC", as he would have been "a few years", i.e. at least two years, younger than the earliest possible year of birth of these two girls (268 AC, Morya's first possible year of birth).

However, it is questionable at the moment as to whether Walder indeed meant a daughter, and was not thinking of a granddaughter. While Walder agrees with Catelyn Tully that Robb Stark will marry one of his "daughters".[22] When Robb is later to apologize for having spurned a Frey bride, he is presented with all of Walder's unmarried female offspring, including granddaughters, and Robb acknowledges that each of them had been a potential bride for him, as per the agreement with Walder.[25] It would thus seem that "one of [Walder's] daughters" included granddaughters as well, in Robb's case. Since it cannot be determined whether this is the case for Edmure as well, it cannot be assumed with 100% certainty that Walder did not also include granddaughters in his suggestion for Edmure's bride. Hence, these quotes cannot be used with absolute certainty to determine Edmure's year of birth, until further information is given.

Edric Dayne

Birth

Edric Dayne is estimated by Arya Stark to be ten or twelve in 299 AC.[26] Edric admits that he is indeed twelve years old in 299 AC.[27] That gives Edric the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 286 AC

In 300 AC, Edric is still twelve years old.[28] That shows that Edric cannot have been twelve turning thirteen in 299 AC, eliminating option 286 AC, and thus confirms that Edric was eleven turning twelve in 299 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC.

Edric was thus born in 287 AC.

Edric Stark

Birth

Edric Stark's father was not yet married in 58 AC.[29] This means that Edric could not have been born before 58 AC.

In 72 AC, Edric inherited the title of Lord of Winterfell after his grandfather's death.[11]

No further specifications can be given. Edric was thus born in or between 58 AC and 72 AC.

Death

In 72 AC, Edric Stark inherited the title of Lord of Winterfell after his grandfather's death,[11] demonstrating he could not have died any earlier than 72 AC.

Ellard Stark was the Lord of Winterfell in 101 AC,[30] meaning that Edric had died by then.

No further specifications can be given. Edric thus died in or between 72 AC and 101 AC.

Edric Stark (son of Cregan)

Birth

Edric Stark was the second child of Cregan Stark by his third wife, Lady Lynara Stark.[31] He would have been at least one year younger than his older brother Jonnel. As Jonnel was born no earlier than 136 AC (see Jonnel Stark), Edric had been born no earlier than one year later, meaning that Edric could not have been born before 137 AC.

Edric would have been at least one year older than his younger sister, Lyanna Stark.[31] As the latest possible year of birth for Lyanna is 181 AC (see Lyanna Stark (daughter of Cregan)), Edric would have been born no later than 180 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Edric was thus born in or between 137 AC and 180 AC.

Death

Edric Stark died before his brother Jonnel did, as Jonnel was succeeded as Lord of Winterfell by their younger brother Barthogan. Jonnel died no later than 209 AC (see Jonnel Stark), meaning that Edric would have died no later than 209 AC as well.

Edric cannot cannot have died earlier than the year before his youngest child, Aregelle Stark,[31] was born. Aregelle was born no earlier than 154 AC (see Aregelle Stark), so Edric died no earlier than 153 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Edric thus died in or between 153 AC and 209 AC.

Edric Storm

Birth

Edric Storm is said to be "around Bran's age" in 298 AC,[32] when Bran has already turned eight.[33] In 299 AC, Edric is said to be seven or eight years old.[34]

Edric Storm was conceived during the wedding of Stannis Baratheon and Selyse Florent.[35] Since Shireen Baratheon was born during the marriage, Edric would thus be at least Shireen’s age, if not older. Shireen Baratheon was born in 289 AC (see Shireen Baratheon). This means that Edric was born no later than 289 AC.

Edric is stated to have been twelve years old in 299 AC.[36] That would give him the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 286 AC

Devan Seaworth is older than Edric Storm.[37] Devan is known to be eleven years old in late 299 AC,[37] and twelve years old in 300 AC,[38] placing his birth in either 287 AC or 288 AC. As Devan is older than Edric, Edric cannot have been born in 286 AC, as that would make him older than Devan. Thus, 286 AC is eliminated, leaving only 287 AC as a possible option.

Edric Storm was thus born in 287 AC.

Note: Due to Edric's birth having occurred in 287 AC, Devan's option of 288 AC is eliminated, placing Devan's birth in 287 AC as well (see Devan Seaworth). As Devan is older than Edric, this means that Devan was born earlier in the year 287 AC than Edric.

Edwyle Stark

Birth

Edwyle Stark would have been at least one year older than his younger sister, Jocelyn. As Jocelyn had been born no later than 227 AC (see Jocelyn Stark), Edwyle thus was born no later than 226 AC.

Edwyle's older half-brother, Brandon Stark,[31] was born no earlier than 197 AC (see Brandon Stark (son of Willam)). Half siblings with different mothers may share a birth year, therefore Edwyle was also born no earlier than 197 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Edwyle was thus born in or between 197 AC and 226 AC.

Death

By 262 AC, Edwyle's son Rickard was the Lord of Winterfell,[16] indicating that Edwyle had died by 262 AC.

Rickard was born no earlier than 230 AC (see Rickard Stark), indicating that Edwyle cannot have died no earlier than late during the previous year, in 229 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Edwyle thus died in or between 229 AC and 262 AC.

Edwyn Frey

Birth

Edwyn Frey's father Ryman Frey was born no earlier than 245 AC (see Ryman Frey). Ryman would have been at least twelve years old when Edwyn was born. With 245 AC as the earliest possible year of birth for Ryman, Edwyn was born no earlier than twelve years later, in 257 AC.

Edwyn himself was at least twelve years old when his daughter was born. His daughter Walda was born in either 290 AC or 291 AC (see Walda Frey (daughter of Edwyn)). With 291 AC as the last possible year of birth for Walda, Edwyn would have been born at least twelve years prior, in 279 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Edwyn Frey was thus born in or between 257 AC and 279 AC.

Elaena Targaryen

Birth

Elaena Targaryen was three years younger than Rhaena, being eleven when Rhaena was fourteen.[39] As Rhaena was born in 147 AC (see Rhaena Targaryen (daughter of Aegon III)), Elaena was thus born in 150 AC.

Death

Elaena Targaryen was said to be more beautiful at seventy than seventeen,[39] so she must have lived to at least 220 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Elaena thus died in 220 AC or after.

Elaena Targaryen (daughter of Gaemon)

Birth

Elaena Targaryen's eldest child, Maegon Targaryen,[40] was born no later than 68 BC (see Maegon Targaryen). Elaena would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, she would have been born no later than 80 BC.

When Elaena's grandfather, Aenar Targaryen, fled Valyria for Dragonstone in 114 BC, he took with him all his kin, including his children.[41][40] Elaena was not yet born at the time, therefore she would have been born no earlier than 114 BC.

No further specifications can be given. Elaena was thus born in or between 114 BC and 80 BC.

Elbert Arryn

Birth

Elbert Arryn was the only child of Ronnel Arryn,[42] who was born no earlier than ~220 AC (see Ronnel Arryn (son of Jasper)). Ronnel would have been at least 12 years old at Elbert's birth, so Elbert was born no earlier than ~232 AC.

Additionally, Ronnel is known to have been a knight by the time of his son's birth,[42] and was therefore at least 15 years old.[N 2] This means that Elbert was born no earlier than ~235 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Elbert was thus born in ~235 AC or after.

Elder Brother (Quiet Isle)

Birth

Elder Brother is known to have been fourty-four years old in 300 AC.[43] That gives the following options:

  • 43 turning 44 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 256 AC
  • 44 turning 45 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 255 AC

No further specifications can be given. Elder Brother was thus born in either 255 AC or 256 AC.

Eldon Estermont

Birth

Eldon Estermont is roughly seventy years old in 300 AC,[44] which indicates he was roughly between the ages of sixty-eight and seventy-two. This places his birth in or between 228 AC and 232 AC.

Eldric Arryn

Birth

Eldric Arryn had been knighted by 134 AC,[4] meaning that he had the minimum age of fifteen. This would place his birth in 119 AC at the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Eldric was thus born in or before 119 AC.

Eleanor Mooton

Birth

Eleanor Mooton is thirteen years old in 300 AC.[28] That gives her the following options:

  • 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 287 AC
  • 13 turning 14 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 286 AC

No further specifications can be given. Eleanor was thus born in either 286 AC or 287 AC.

Elenda Caron

Birth

Elenda Caron was twenty years older than Ser Steffon Connington,[45] who was born at the latest in 117 AC (see Steffon Connington). Elenda would have been born no later than 97 AC.

Following rule #5, Elenda was no older than ~52 years old at the birth of her youngest child, Royce Baratheon,[46] who was born in 131 AC.[46] Therefore Elenda would have been born no earlier than ~79 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Elenda was thus born in or between ~79 AC and 97 AC.

Eleyna Westerling

Birth

Eleyna Westerling is near Sansa Stark's age in 299 AC.[23] Sansa, at that time, is twelve years old, making Eleyna around twelve years old as well in 299 AC. It is known that Eleyna is twelve years old in 299 AC as well.[36] That gives her the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 287 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 286 AC

Eleyna is still twelve years old in 300AC.[28] This eliminates the second option (with her birth in 286 AC), leaving only the option of 287 AC as Eleyna’s birth year.

Eleyna was thus born in 287 AC.

Elia Martell

Birth

Elia Martell was a year older than her brother Oberyn.[18] Doran Martell was nine years old when his sister Elia was born, and has mentioned that their brother Oberyn was born ten years after him.[47] That between Oberyn and Doran are exactly ten years, shows that between Doran and Elia are exactly nine years. Doran Martell was born in either 247 AC or 248 AC (see Doran Martell). This gives Elia the following options:

  • With Doran born in 247 AC, Elia was born in 256 AC
  • With Doran born in 248 AC, Elia was born in 257 AC

No further specifications can be given. Elia Martell was thus born in either 256 AC or 257 AC.

Death

Elia died during the Sack of King's Landing. The Sack of King's Landing occured in 283 AC (see Robert's Rebellion/War of the Usurper).

Elia thus died in 283 AC.

Elinor Massey

Birth

Elinor Massey was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden’s Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty, this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC. A rumor was spread before the Maiden's Day Ball that Elinor had lost her virginity. In order for the rumor to be believable, Elinor would have to be born twelve years or more before 133 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Elinor was thus born in or between 103 AC and 121 AC.

Elinor Tyrell

Birth

Elinor Tyrell is known to be close to Sansa Stark's age.[50] Sansa Stark was born in 286 AC. This places Elinor's birth roughly around 286 AC as well.

Elissa Farman

Birth

Elissa Farman was three years older than her brother Androw.[51] As Androw was born in 32 AC (see Androw Farman), Elissa must have been born in 29 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Ellard thus died in or between 101 AC and 121 AC.

Ellendor

Birth

Ellendor was close to 90 years old when he was chosen as Grand Maester.[54] He died a little less than a year later,[54] in either 258 AC or 259 AC (see below, under “Death”). That means Ellendor was with certainty almost 90 years old (but not yet 90 years old), a year before, in either 257 AC or 258 AC. That gives him the following options (assuming that “nigh on 90” can be from 86 to 89):

  • 86 turning 87 in 257 AC, placing his birth in 170 AC
  • 86 turning 87 in 258 AC, placing his birth in 171 AC
  • 87 turning 88 in 257 AC, placing his birth in 169 AC
  • 87 turning 88 in 258 AC, placing his birth in 170 AC

  • 89 turning 90 in 257 AC, placing his birth in 167 AC
  • 89 turning 90 in 258 AC, placing his birth in 168 AC

No further specifications can be given. Ellendor was thus born in or between 167 AC and 171 AC.

Death

Ellendor died within a year of being raised to the office, which caused Merion to be named to the office of Grand Maester. Merion was send to King's Landing, but he died on the journey over there. That was when Pycelle was raised to the office, in 259 AC.[54] With Pycelle having started in 259 AC, that means that Merion died in 259 AC. Merion died on the way to King's Landing, which means he was named Grand Maester either in 259 AC or in 258 AC (it is unknown how long the journey takes exactly, or in which part of the year this all occurred).

No further specifications can be given. Ellendor thus died in either 258 AC or 259 AC.

Ellyn Baratheon

Birth

Ellyn Baratheon was the younger sister of Maris Baratheon,[53] who was born at the earliest in 112 AC (see Maris Baratheon). As Ellyn would have been at least one year younger, she could not have been born any earlier than 113 AC.

Ellyn was present when Aemond Targaryen and Lucerys Velaryon came to Storm's End at the start of the Dance of the Dragons in 129 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Ellyn was thus born in or between 113 AC and 129 AC.

Death

Ellyn Caron was the ruling lady of Nightsong when she defeated the Vulture King's army in 37 AC.[55] In 49 AC, the ruler of Nightsong was Lord Morton Caron,[9] indicating she had died by then.

No further specifications can be given. Ellyn thus died in or between 37 AC and 49 AC.

Ellyn Reyne

Birth

Ellyn Reyne's eldest child, Rohanne Tarbeck, was born in 240 AC.[56] Ellyn would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 228 AC.

Following rule #5, Ellyn was no older than ~52 years old at the birth of her youngest child, Tion Tarbeck,[56] who was born in 242 AC.[56] Therefore Ellyn would have been born no earlier than ~190 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Ellyn was thus born in or between ~190 AC and 228 AC.

Elmar Frey

Birth

Elmar Frey was nine years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC.[12][28] Being nine years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means Elmar was eight turning nine in 299 AC, and nine turning ten in 300 AC, placing his birth in 290 AC.

Elmo Tully

Birth

Elmo Tully's eldest child was Kermit,[57] who had been born in 112 AC (see Kermit Tully). As Elmo would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Kermit's birth, Elmo could not have been born any later than 100 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Elmo was thus born in or before 100 AC.

Elric Stark

Birth

Elric Stark was alive in 126 AC.[53] Thus he was born in or before 126 AC.

Death

Elric was alive in 126 AC.[53] Thus he died in or after 126 AC.

Elyana's mother Lythene was born in 250 AC the earliest (see Lythene Frey). Lythene would have been at least twelve years old when Elyana, her eldest child, was born, placing Elyana's earliest possible moment of birth in 262 AC

No further specifications can be given. Elyana was thus born in or between 262 AC and 283 AC.

Elys Arryn

Birth

Elys Arryn was three years older than her stepmother, Princess Daella Targaryen, who was born in 64 AC.[11] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Elys' birth in 61 AC.

Elys Waynwood

Birth

Elys Waynwood's eighth child was the mother of Harrold Hardyng.[42] Harrold was born no later than 282 AC (see Harrold Hardyng). Harold's mother would have been at least 12 years old at his birth, so she was born no later than 270 AC. Elys would have been at least 19 years old at the birth of his eight child, so he was born no later than 251 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Elys was thus born in or before 251 AC.

Emberlei Frey

Birth

Emberlei Frey is mentioned to be two years old in 299 AC[12] and three years old in 300 AC.[28] Being two years old in 299 AC and three years old in 300 AC, gives the following options:

  • 1 turning 2 in 299 AC, and 2 turning 3 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 297 AC
  • 2 turning 3 in 299 AC, and 3 turning 4 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 296 AC

No further specifications can be given. Emberlei was thus born in either 296 AC or 297 AC.

Emma

Birth

Emma is at least 40 years old in 300 AC.[59] Being at least 40 years old in 300 AC would place her birth no later than 260 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Emma was thus born in or before 260 AC.

Emmon Frey

Birth

Emmon Frey was fourteen years old when he was betrothed to Genna Lannister,[60] in 252 AC.[61] Being fourteen years old in 252 AC, would give the following options:

  • 13 turning 14 in 252 AC, placing his birth in 238 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 252 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC

Emmon is said to be sixty years of age in 300 AC.[60] If taken literally, this would give him the following options:

  • 59 turning 60 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 240 AC
  • 60 turning 61 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 239 AC

As can be seen, none of these possibilities overlap with the two possibilities given above. As Emmon being fourteen years of age in 252 AC is specified, it would seem that Jaime was being rough with indicating Emmon's age in 300 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Emmon was thus born in either 237 AC or 238 AC.

Eon Hunter

Birth

Eon Hunter is known to have been older than Jon Arryn.[21] Jon Arryn was born in 220 AC the latest, roughly speaking (see Jon Arryn), showing that Eon Hunter was born at least one year before, meaning he was born in 221 AC or before, roughly.

Erena Glover

Birth

Erena Glover was one year old in 299 AC.[12] That gives her the following options:

  • 0 turning 1 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 298 AC
  • 1 turning 2 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 297 AC

No further specifications can be given. Erena was thus born in either 297 AC or 298 AC.

Erik Ironmaker

Birth

Erik Ironmaker is mentioned to be eighty-eight years old in 300 AC.[62] This gives the following options:

Birth

Errold Stark's younger sibling, Rodrik Stark,[31] was born no later than 227 AC (see Rodrik Stark (son of Beron)). Errold would have been born at least a year earlier, so he was born no later than 226 AC.

Errold's next oldest sibling, Alysanne Stark,[31] was born no earlier than 188 AC (see Alysanne Stark). Errold would have been born at least a year later, therefore he was born no earlier than 189 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Errold was thus born in or between 189 AC and 226 AC.

Erryk Cargyll

Birth

Erryk Cargyll was a knight of the Kingsguard in 105 AC.[64] As Jaime Lannister was the youngest to be appointed into the order at fifteen in 281 AC.[65] Meaning that Erryk was at least sixteen years old in 105 AC. This places his birth no later than 89 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Erryk was thus born in or before 89 AC.

Ethan Glover

Birth

Ethan Glover was Brandon Stark's squire when he died in 282 AC.[66] Squires are at least eight years old, therefore Ethan was born in or before 274 AC.

Euron Greyjoy

Birth

Euron Greyjoy was the fifth son of Quellon Greyjoy. Thus, he would have been at least one year younger than his brother Balon, Quellon's fourth son. Balon was born no earlier than 255 AC (see Balon Greyjoy), placing Euron's birth no earlier than one year later, in 256 AC.

Euron would have been at least two years older than his younger brother Urrigon, Quellon's seventh son. Urrigon was born in or between 268 AC and 270 AC (see Urrigon Greyjoy), meaning that Euron cannot have been born any later than 268 AC, two years prior to Urrigon's last potential year of birth.

No further specifications can be given. Euron was thus born in or between 256 AC and 268 AC.

Eustace Hightower

Birth

Eustace Hightower had been knighted by 56 AC,[29] meaning that he had the minimum age of 15. This would place his birth in 41 AC at the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Eustace was thus born in or before 41 AC.

Eustace Osgrey

Death

Eustace Osgrey married Rohanne Webber in 211 AC.[67] After Eustace's death, Rohanne married Gerold Lannister and had children with him. Their first children were the twins Tion and Tywald Lannister,[52] who were born at the latest in 219 AC (see Tion Lannister and Tywald Lannister).

No further specifications can be given. Eustace thus died in or between 211 AC and 219 AC.

Falena Stokeworth

Birth

Falena Stokeworth is known to have been eight years old in 133 AC,[3] and twenty-four years old in 149 AC.[68] As both sources for her age are historical works, following rule #3, Falena was thus born in 125 AC.

Falia Flowers

Birth

Falia Flowers is seventeen or eighteen years old in 300 AC.[69] That gives her the following options:

  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC
  • 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 281 AC

No further specifications can be given. Falia was thus born in either 281 AC, 282 AC or 283 AC.

Falyse Stokeworth

Birth

Falyse Stokeworth is older than her sister Lollys by at least one year. Lollys was born in 265 AC (see Lollys Stokeworth), placing Falyse's birth no later than 264 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Falyse was thus born in or before 264 AC.

Note: Since Falyse has been married for roughly ten years by 300 AC, it seems unlikely that she was born much earlier than 264 AC. If Falyse was born in 264 AC, she would have been 26 years old when she married around 290 AC. Though the ten years of Falyse's marriage is a rough indication, it does show that Falyse got married around her early twenties at the earliest. If Falyse was born many years before 264 AC, that would push her age closer to 30 when she got married for the first time, something which, though possible, seems less likely.

Concluded can be that Falyse most likely won't have been born that many years before 264 AC, though a specific birth year, or a specific time frame, cannot be given.

Flement Brax

Birth

Flement Brax's eldest son, Robert,[36] was born in 290 AC (see Robert Brax (son of Flement)). Flement would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Robert's birth, meaning he could not have been born any later than 278 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Flement was thus born in or before 278 AC.

Floris Baratheon

Birth

Floris Baratheon was fourteen years old in 132 AC.[45] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, this places her birth in 118 AC.

Floris was thus born in 118 AC.

Franklyn Farman

Birth

Franklyn Farman was the older brother of Androw Farman,[10] who had been born in 32 AC (see Androw Farman). As Franklyn would have been at least one year older, he would have been born no later than 31 AC.

Franklyn's father, Marq Farman, would have been at least twelve at the time of Franklyn's birth. As Marq was born in 4 AC (see Marq Farman), Franklyn could not have been born earlier than 16 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Franklyn was thus born in or between 16 AC and 31 AC.

Death

Franklyn Farman is known to have still been alive in 55 AC.[29] By 88 AC, Franklyn had died.[11]

No further specifications can be given. Franklyn thus died in or between 55 AC and 88 AC.

Gaemon Palehair

Birth

Gaemon Palehair was four years old in 130 AC.[70] As the source of Gaemon's age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, which places Gaemon's birth in 126 AC.

Galazza Galare

Birth

Galazza Galare is at least twenty years older than Barristan Selmy.[71] Barristan was born in 236 AC or 237 AC (see Barristan Selmy), meaning that the Green Grace was born twenty or more years before that, placing her birth no later than 217 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Galazza was thus born in or before 217 AC.

Galladon Tarth

Birth

Galladon Tarth was eight when Brienne of Tarth was four years old.[43] Brienne was born in 280 AC (see Brienne of Tarth). That means Brienne was four years old in both 284 AC (3 turning 4) and 285 AC (4 turning 5). This gives Galladon the following options:

  • 7 turning 8 in 284 AC, placing his birth in 276 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 284 AC, placing his birth in 275 AC
  • 7 turning 8 in 285 AC, placing his birth in 277 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 285 AC, placing his birth in 276 AC

No further specifications can be given. Galladon was thus born in either 275 AC, 276 AC or 277 AC.

Death

Galladon Tarth died when he was eight years old.[43] Galladon's possible birth years give the following options for him having been eight years old:

  • If born in 275 AC
    • 7 turning 8 in 283 AC
    • 8 turning 9 in 284 AC
  • If born in 276 AC
    • 7 turning 8 in 284 AC
    • 8 turning 9 in 285 AC
  • If born in 277 AC
    • 7 turning 8 in 285 AC
    • 8 turning 9 in 286 AC

When Galladon died, his sister, Brienne, was four years old. Brienne was born in 280 AC (see Brienne of Tarth). Brienne was thus four years old in both 284 AC (3 turning 4) and 285 AC (4 turning 5). This eliminates the years 283 AC and 285 AC as possible years of death for Galladon, as his sister cannot have been four years old during those two years.

No further specifications can be given. Galladon thus died in either 284 AC or 285 AC.

Gared

Birth

Gared was near as old as Lord Commander Jeor Mormont,[72] who had been born in 230 AC (see Jeor Mormont). This means that Gared was almost as old as Jeor, but did not have the same age, meaning he was born in 231 AC or later.

By 297 AC (see 297 AC), Gared had been on the Wall for forty years,[73] meaning he joined in ~257 AC. During those forty years, he had been "man and boy",[73] indicating that by the time he joined the Night's Watch, Gared had not yet reached the age of majority. As such, in ~257 AC he had not yet reached the age of sixteen, although it is possible he would have turned sixteen later that year. Thus, Gared could not have been born any earlier than ~241 AC.

In 297 AC Gared was "past fifty",[73] meaning he was at least fifty-one years old, and thus born in 246 AC or before.

No further specifications can be given. Gared was thus born in or between ~241 AC and 246 AC.

Garlan Tyrell

Birth

Garlan Tyrell is noted to be five years older than his brother Loras.[74] Loras Tyrell was born in 282 AC (see Loras Tyrell). With Garlan being five years older than Loras, Garlan was born in 277 AC.

Garmund Hightower

Birth

Garmund Hightower was the third son of Lord Ormund Hightower.[57] Garmund's older brother Martyn had been born no earlier than 115 AC (see Martyn Hightower (son of Ormund)). As Garmund would have been at least one year younger than Martyn, he would have been born no earlier than 116 AC.

Garmund's mother died in childbirth "some years" before his father remarried shortly before the Dance of the Dragons began.[57] Since the Dance began in 129 AC, this places the wedding of Garmund's father in 129 AC at the latest, and therefore the death of Garmund's mother at least two years earlier, in 127 AC, or before. Garmund could not have been born any later than the last possible year of his mother's death. As such, he could not have been born any later than 127 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Garmund Hightower was thus born in or between 116 AC and 127 AC.

Garon Baratheon

Birth

Garon Baratheon was the younger brother of Borys Baratheon,[51] who was born at the earliest in 18 AC (see Borys Baratheon), and the older brother of Orryn Baratheon,[9] who was born in 26 AC (see Orryn Baratheon). Garon's birth was at least one year apart from his brothers, meaning that he was born in or between 19 AC and 25 AC.

Gawen Glover

Birth

Gawen Glover was three years old in 299 AC,[12] and four years old in 300 AC.[75] That gives him the following options:

  • 3 turning 4 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 296 AC
  • 4 turning 5 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 295 AC

No further specifications can be given. Gawen was thus born in either 295 AC or 296 AC.

Gawen Swann

Birth

Gawen Swann was older than Arlan of Pennytree in 209 AC.[76] Arlan of Pennytree was born in or between 149 AC and 153 AC (see Arlan of Pennytree). This means that Gawen Swann was born in 152 AC at the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Gawen was thus born in or before 152 AC.

Note: That Duncan the Tall can tell that Gawen is older than Arlan from a distance, suggests that Gawen is at least several years older.

Gendry

Birth

When meeting Gendry, Eddard Stark judges him to be "about [Robb Stark]'s age".[77] Robb Stark was born in 283 AC (see Robb Stark).

In 299 AC, Gendry is stated to be five years older than the ten-year old Arya Stark, meaning Gendry was fifteen years old at the time.[78] Being fifteen years old in 299 AC places Gendry's birth in either 284 AC (if he had turned fifteen that year) or 283 AC (if he would turn sixteen later that year).

As Robert's Rebellion ended only in 283 AC, and Robert Baratheon, Gendry's father, was nowhere near King's Landing, Gendry's place of birth,[79] during the year before, Gendry cannot have been conceived in 282 AC, and thus he cannot have been born in 283 AC (the Rebellion ended roughly towards the end of the year, meaning that Gendry cannot have been conceived and born in the same year after the war had ended). This eliminates the option of his birth at 283 AC.

In 300 AC, Brienne of Tarth estimates Gendry to have been younger than Renly Baratheon had been when she first met him, the first time he had come to Tarth.[80] The first time Renly came to Tarth was during his coming of age tour,[81] meaning he had been sixteen years old or older. Later, Brienne thinks that Gendry is not yet "a man grown",[80] indicating that Gendry was either fifteen years old or younger when Brienne met him in 300 AC, placing his birth in either 284 AC, or later.

As 284 AC is the only overlapping possibility, this eliminates all other possibilities, placing his birth in 284 AC.

Genna Lannister

Birth

Genna Lannister was seven years old when she was betrothed to Emmon Frey in 252 AC.[61] As this is a historical work stating Genna's age in 252 AC, rule #3 applies, placing Genna's birth in 245 AC.

Geremy Frey

Birth

Geremy Frey was born after Merrett Frey, and before Raymund Frey. Merrett Frey was born in 262 AC (see Merrett Frey). Merrett, Geremy and Raymund were all children of Amarei Crakehall, Lord Walder Frey's third wife. According to Walder Frey, Amarei died before Catelyn Tully was born.[22] Catelyn Tully was born in 265 AC the latest (see Catelyn Tully), making 265 AC the last possible moment for Amarei to have died, and thus to have given birth.

Amarei gave birth to Merrett Frey in 262 AC, and since Geremy and Raymund are not stated to have been twins, it can be assumed they were born a year apart.

With Geremy having been born at least one year after Merrett, who was born in 262 AC, he cannot have been born any earlier than 263 AC.

Since Geremy was born at least one year before Raymund, and with Amarei's last possible year of giving birth being 265 AC, Geremy cannot have been born any later than 264 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Geremy Frey was thus born in either 263 AC or 264 AC.

Death

The first reference to Geremy Frey's death occurs in 299 AC (see 298 AC to 299 AC), when Lady Catelyn notes that there are twenty-one living sons of Walder Frey,[22] since it is later established that Lord Walder had twenty-two sons of whom only one is dead.[12] Since it is not stated how long Geremy has been dead, 299 AC is thus the last possible year of death for Geremy, theoretically.

Geremy's youngest child is Cynthea Frey, who was born in 290 AC (see Cynthea Frey). This means that Cynthea's conception could have taken place in 289 AC the earliest. Since Geremy would only need to have been alive during the conception, and not the actual birth, the year 289 AC is the first possible year for Geremy to have died.

No further specifications can be given. Geremy thus died in or between 289 AC and 299 AC.

Gerion Lannister

Death

Gerion Lannister had set sail for Valyria when Tyrion Lannister was eighteen years old.[82] As Tyrion was born in 273 AC,[16][61] this means Gerion left on his journey in either:

  • 291 AC, with Tyrion being 17 turning 18
  • 292 AC, with Tyrion being 18 turning 19

In 299 AC, Tyrion Lannister states that Gerion had left on his journey "some eight years past",[83] indicating that the option of 292 AC can be eliminated.

While it is unknown when exactly Gerion died, it can be stated that Gerion appears to have left on his journey in 291 AC. Therefore, he was lost at sea and presumed dead in 291 AC or after. No further specifications can be given.

Gerold Dayne

Birth

Gerold Dayne is in his late twenties,[84] so in or between the ages of twenty-six and twenty-nine. Gerold is introduced in 300 AC. Being 26-29 in 300 AC gives him the following options:

  • 25 turning 26 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 274 AC
  • 26 turning 27 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 273 AC
  • 27 turning 28 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 272 AC
  • 28 turning 29 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 271 AC
  • 29 turning 30 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 270 AC

No further specifications can be given. Gerold was thus born in or between 270 AC and 274 AC.

Gerold Hightower

Birth

Gerold Hightower was appointed Lord Commander of the Kingsguard in 259 AC.[85] Jaime Lannister was the youngest knight ever to be raised to the Kingsguard at the age of fifteen in 281 AC.[86][87] Therefore Gerold was sixteen or older in 259 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gerold was thus born in or before 243 AC.

Gerold Lannister

Birth

Gerold Lannister's elder brother, Tybolt Lannister, died in 212 AC and was followed as Lord of Casterly Rock by his infant daughter, Cerelle Lannister. Gerold served as regent during the short tenure of his niece.[61][52] In order to be Cerelle's regent, Gerold had to have reached manhood in 212 AC, meaning that he was at least 16 years old in 212 AC. Therefore, Gerold could not have been born any later than 196 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gerold was thus born in or before 196 AC.

Gerrick Kingsblood's son

Birth

Gerrick Kingsblood's son is among the one hundred free folk boys between the ages of eight and sixteen given as hostages to the Night's Watch in 300 AC.[88]

If he is eight years old in 300 AC, that gives him the following options:

  • 7 turning 8 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 292 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 291 AC

If he is sixteen years old in 300 AC, that gives him the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 283 AC

No further specifications can be given. He was thus born in or between 283 AC and 292 AC.

Gerris Drinkwater

Birth

Gerris Drinkwater is six years older than Quentyn Martell,[89] who was born in 281 AC (see Quentyn Martell). This places Gerris' birth in 275 AC.

Gilliane Glover

Birth

Gilliane Glover's eldest child, Cregan Stark, was born in 108 AC (See Cregan Stark). Gilliane would have been at least twelve years old at Cregan's birth, placing her birth no later than 96 AC.

Following rule #5, Gilliane was no older than ~52 years old at the birth of her youngest child, Cregan's unnamed younger brother,[53] who was born at least a year after Cregan. Therefore Gilliane would have been born no earlier than ~57 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gilliane was thus born in or between ~57 AC and 96 AC.

Death

Gilliane Glover had two sons.[31][53] Her eldest son was born in 108 AC, indicating that her second son could not have been born any earlier than 109 AC. As such, Gilliane could not have died any earlier than 109 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gilliane thus died in 109 AC or after.

Gilly

Birth

Gilly is judged to be fifteen or sixteen in 299 AC.[90] This gives Gilly the following options:

  • 14 turning 15 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC

No further specifications can be given. Gilly was thus born in either 282 AC, 283 AC or 284 AC

Gilwood Hunter

Birth

Gilwood Hunter's age is judged to have been closer to 50 than to 40 in 300 AC.[91] Being closer to 50 than to 40 would make Gilwood 46 years old at least. It also means that he has not yet turned 50, though it is possible he will be turning 50 later in the year. This gives Gilwood the following options:

  • 45 turning 46 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 254 AC
  • 46 turning 47 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 253 AC
  • 47 turning 48 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 252 AC
  • 48 turning 49 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 251 AC
  • 49 turning 50 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 250 AC

No further specifications can be given. Gilwood was thus born in or between 250 AC and 254 AC.

Glendon Flowers

Birth

Upon first meeting Glendon Flowers in 212 AC, Duncan the Tall estimates him to be sixteen years old, definitely no more than eighteen.[92] That would give Glendon the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 212 AC, placing his birth in 196 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 212 AC, placing his birth in 195 AC
  • 17 turning 18 in 212 AC, placing his birth in 194 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 212 AC, placing his birth in 193 AC

According to Glendon himself, his father died before he was born.[92] Glendon's supposed father, Quentyn Ball, died on the eve of the Battle of the Redgrass Field, the last battle of the First Blackfyre Rebellion that occurred during the year 196 AC.[92][93] This would eliminate 193 AC, 194 AC, and 195 AC as an option for Glendon's birth. The option of 196 AC can also be eliminated as the rebellion is known to have started and ended during the year 196 AC and lasted "nigh a year". Taking into account the nine months of pregnancy, Glendon could not have been born earlier than mid to late 197 AC.

In addition, it is known that, during this first meeting of Glendon and Duncan, Glendon has been a knight for nearly half a year.[92] As he would have been at least 15 years old at receiving his knighthood,[N 2] he would have been at least 15.5 years old in 212 AC. Being at least 15.5 years old in 212 AC places Glendon's birth no later than 197 AC, with no more than nine months after his father's death in 196 AC.

Glendon Ball was thus born in 197 AC.

Glendon Goode

Birth

Glendon Goode was twenty years old in 130 AC.[94] That gives him the following options:

  • 19 turning 20 in 130 AC, placing his birth in 110 AC
  • 20 turning 21 in 130 AC, placing his birth in 109 AC

As the source for Glendon's age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, eliminating the option of 109 AC. Glendon was thus born in 110 AC.

Goodwin

Death

Goodwin taught Brienne of Tarth how to fight in her youth.[95][96] While young noble boys traditionally start to train at arms around the age of six or seven (see Pages and Squires), Brienne, as a girl, probably started a bit later. Given that Brienne was born in 280 AC (see Brienne of Tarth), she could not have trained with Goodwin earlier than 286 AC. Therefore 286 AC is the earlist possible year of death for Goodwin.

Goodwin was "long in his grave" in 300 AC.[80] As Brienne of Tarth left Evenfall Hall in late 298 AC or early 299 AC to join Renly Baratheon's army at Bitterbridge,[97] and she has not kept up to date with the ongoings in Tarth, this means Goodwin died before Brienne left home. Therefore 298 AC is the lastest possible year of death for Goodwin.

No further specifications can be given. Goodwin thus died in or between 286 AC and 298 AC.

Gormon Peake

Birth

Gormon Peake had been knighted by 196 AC,[67] meaning that he had the minimum age of fifteen. This would place his birth in 181 AC at the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Gormon was thus born in or before 181 AC.

Gormond Goodbrother

Birth

Gormond Goodbrother is judged to be no older than sixteen in 299 AC.[98] A semi-canon source confirms he is indeed sixteen years old,[99] which gives him the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC

No further specifications can be given. Gormond was thus born in either 282 AC or 283 AC.

Gran Goodbrother

Birth

Gran Goodbrother is one of three triplets, of which another is Gormond Goodbrother.[28] As Gormond was born in either 282 AC or 283 AC (see Gormond Goodbrother), Gran was thus born in either 282 AC or 283 AC as well.

No further specifications can be given.

Gregor Clegane

Birth

Gregor Clegane was seventeen years old in 283 AC.[32] Being seventeen in 283 AC gives the following options:

  • 16 turning 17, placing his birth in 266 AC
  • 17 turning 18, placing his birth in 265 AC

No further specifications can be given. Gregor was thus born in either 265 AC or 266 AC.

Grenn

Birth

Grenn was sixteen years old in 298 AC.[100] Being sixteen in 298 AC gives the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 281 AC

No further specifications can be given. Grenn was thus born in either 281 AC or 282 AC.

Greydon Goodbrother

Birth

Greydon Goodbrother is one of three triplets, of which another is Gormond Goodbrother.[28] As Gormond was born in either 282 AC or 283 AC (see Gormond Goodbrother), Greydon was thus born in either 282 AC or 283 AC as well.

No further specifications can be given.

Grisel

Birth

Grisel was the wet nurse of Petyr Baelish,[101] who was born in 268 AC (see Petyr Baelish). To be able to be Petyr's wet nurse, Grisel would have been at least twelve years old at the time of his birth. As such, Grisel had been born no later than 256 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Grisel was thus born in or before 256 AC.

Grover Tully

Birth

Grover Tully was the grandfather of Elmo Tully,[53] who had been born at the latest in 100 AC (see Elmo Tully). Grover would have been at least twelve years old at the birth of Elmo's father, and at least twenty-four years old at the birth of Elmo. As such, Grover could not have been born any later than 76 AC.

Moreover, Grover is described as an old man as early as 101 AC.[53] If Grover was born in 76 AC, he would be twenty-five years old in 101 AC, which would not make him an old man. Therefore Grover would have been born before 76 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Grover was thus born before 76 AC.

Gulian Swann

Birth

Gulian Swann is "well past forty" in 300 AC.[102] That gives him the minimum age of 41 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 259 AC or before. No further specifications can be given.

Note: The term “well past” suggests that Gulian's actual year of birth is somewhat earlier than 259 AC, but it cannot be stated exactly how much.

Gunthor Hightower

Birth

Gunthor Hightower's younger sibling is Humfrey. Humfrey's last possible year of birth is 285 AC (see Humfrey Hightower). His next elder sibling is Lynesse, who was born roughly in ~271/272 AC (see Lynesse Hightower). Since it cannot be specified whether these three siblings have the same mother, two of them might have been born in the same year. Therefore, Gunthors first possible year of birth is ~271 AC (if born in the same year as Lynesse), and his last possible year of birth is 285 AC (if born in the same year as Humfrey).

No further specifications can be given. Gunthor was thus born in or between ~271 AC and 285 AC.

Guyard Morrigen

Birth

Guyard Morrigen was said to have been a babe during the Siege of Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion.[97] The Siege of Storm’s End during Robert’s Rebellion began in 282 AC and ended in 283 AC. Since Rickon Stark is still called a babe at the age of four,[103] Guyard could have been up to four years old during the Siege.

Being four years old during 283 AC, means that Guyard could potentially have been 4 turning 5 in 283 AC, placing his birth in 278 AC. Guyard will not have been born any earlier.

Guyard would also have been a babe during the Siege if he had been born during the Siege. Since the Siege ended in 283 AC, this is the latest he could have been born.

No further specifications can be given. Guyard was thus born in or between 278 AC and 283 AC.

Gwayne Hightower

Birth

Gwayne Hightower had been knighted by 111 AC.[104] With the minimum age of 15,[N 2] Gwayne would not have been younger than fourteen turning fifteen in 111 AC, giving him the minimum birth year of 96 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gwayne was thus born in or before 96 AC.

Gwenys Rivers

Birth

Gwenys Rivers was at least one years older than her younger brother, Brynden, who was born in 175 AC.[68] This places her birth in 174 AC the latest. Gwenys' mother had been King Aegon's mistresses from either 172 AC or 173 AC (until either 176 AC or 177 AC),[68] meaning that 173 AC (second possible year of her "reign" as mistress) is the earliest possible year for Gwenys to have been born.

No further specifications can be given. Gwenys was thus born in either 173 AC or 174 AC.

Gwin Goodbrother

Birth

Gwin Goodbrother is one of the twelve daughters of Lots Gorold Goodbrother.[98][28] She is older than her triplet brothers, who were born in either 282 AC or 283 AC (see Gormond Goodbrother, Gran Goodbrother, and Greydon Goodbrother). As Gwin will be at least one year older than her brothers, she cannot have been born any later than 282 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gwin was thus born in or before 282 AC.

Gwyneth Yronwood

Birth

Gwyneth Yronwood was twelve years old in 300 AC.[89] That gives her the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 288 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 287 AC

No further specifications can be given. Gwyneth was thus born in either 287 AC or 288 AC.

Gyles Morrigen

Birth

Gyles Morrigen was a member of the Kingsguard in 48 AC.[105] At the age of fifteen, Jaime Lannister was the youngest to join the Kingsguard ever,[65][87] indicating Gyles was at least sixteen years old when he joined the Kingsguard. This means that Gyles Morrigen was born at the latest in 32 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gyles was thus born in or before 32 AC.

Death

Gyles Morrigen was still alive in 84 AC.[11] He was succeeded as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard after his death by Ser Ryam Redwyne.[102][104] Since Ryam is known to have been the Lord Commander by 99 AC,[64] Gyles couldn't have died any later than 99 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Gyles thus died in or between 84 AC and 99 AC.

Gysella Goodbrother

Birth

Gysella Goodbrother is at least one year older than her little sister, Gwin Goodbrother,[28] who was born at the latest in 282 AC (see Gwin Goodbrother). This means that one year earlier, 281 AC, is the latest possible year of birth for Gysella.

No further specifications can be given. Gysella was thus born in or before 281 AC.

Haegon I Blackfyre

Birth

Haegon Blackfyre was at least a year younger than his elder brother, Daemon II Blackfyre, who was born in 189 AC (see Daemon II Blackfyre). This means that 190 AC is the first possible year of birth for Haegon.

Haegon had three younger brothers. All of the children of Daemon I had been born before the First Blackfyre Rebellion began in early 196 AC.[93] That means that 196 AC, early in the year, is the last possible moment for Haegon's youngest brother to have been born. Which, in turn, means that 193 AC is the last possible year of birth for Haegon.

No further specifications can be given. Haegon was thus born in or between 190 AC and 193 AC.

Hagen's daughter

Birth

Hagen's daughter is seventeen years old in 300 AC.[75] That gives her the following options:

  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC
  • 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC

No further specifications can be given. She was thus born in either 282 AC or 283 AC.

Halder

Birth

Halder is sixteen years old in 298 AC.[106] That gives the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 281 AC

No further specifications can be given. Halder was thus born in either 281 AC or 282 AC.

Halleck Hoare

Death

Halleck Hoare ruled the Iron Islands and the Riverlands as king. Following his death, his eldest son, Harren, inherited the rule. Harren ruled for forty years,[107] and devoted most of his long reign, "close on forty years", on building Harrenhal.[41] Shortly after Harrenhal was completed, on the day Harren took up residence, Aegon I Targaryen began his Conquest, in 2 BC.[108]

With Harrenhal having taken nearly forty years to build, upon its completion in 2 BC, indicates that Harren began construction ~ 41 BC. That Harren's reign, which had ended in 2 BC, had lasted forty years, indicates that his rule began in ~ 42 BC. Both indicate that Halleck thus must have died around 42 BC.

No further specifications can be given. Halleck thus died around ~42 BC.

Harlaw (daughter of Hotho)

Birth

Hotho's daughter is twelve years old in 300 AC.[109] This gives her the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 288 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC

No further specifications can be given. She was thus born in either 287 AC or 288 AC.

Harlon Greyjoy

Birth

Harlon Greyjoy was the eldest son of Lord Quellon Greyjoy.[98] He had eight younger brothers. Urrigon and Aeron were the seventh and eighth son of Quellon respectively. Urrigon was born in or between 268 AC and 270 AC (see Urrigon Greyjoy), and Aeron was born in or between 269 AC and 273 AC (see Aeron Greyjoy).

Aeron still has vague memories of Harlon, despite the fact that Harlon died before reaching the age of manhood (i.e. sixteen).[98] It is unknown how far Harlon was from reaching manhood when he died, leaving open the possibility that Harlon died during the year he would have turned sixteen, only before his sixteenth birthday.

Harlon died before reaching the age of sixteen, but it is possible he would have turned sixteen during the year of his death. That means he cannot have been older than fifteen turning sixteen when he died, and possibly was younger. Aeron Greyjoy can still recall his brother Harlon, demonstrating that Harlon died after Aeron's birth. Aeron was born in 269 AC the earliest, and as Harlon cannot have been older than fifteen turning sixteen the year of his death, was thus born no more than sixteen years prior to Aeron's first possible year of birth, in 253 AC. Harlon was thus born no earlier than 253 AC

As Quellon's firstborn son, Harlon is at least six years older than his brother Urrigon, Quellon's seventh son. As Urrigon was born in 270 AC the latest, Harlon was born no later than six years before, in 264 AC.

Harlon would have been at least one year older than his brother Quenton, Quellon's second son.[98] Quenton was born no later than 260 AC (see Quenton Greyjoy), meaning that Harlon cannot have been born any later than one year prior to 260 AC, thereby placing his birth no later than 259 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Harlon was thus born in or between 253 AC and 259 AC.

Note: As Aeron can still vaguely recall Harlon, it seems clear that Aeron was at least a few years old when Harlon died, prior to his sixteenth birthday. However, no exact number can be given to Aeron's age at this event. As such, Harlon's first possible year of birth, 253 AC, is based on the absolute possible youngest Aeron could have been (the last possible year of his birth) combined with the absolute eldest Harlon could have been when he died. As newborns are highly unlikely to recall a sibling who died the year of their birth, Aeron will thus most likely have been a few years old, at least, when Harlon died, meaning that Harlon's true year of birth lies closer to 259 AC than to 253 AC.

Harrold Hardyng

Birth

Harrold Hardyng was knighted in 300 AC at the age of eighteen.[110] Being eighteen in 300 AC gives the following options:

  • 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 281 AC

No further specifications can be given. Harrold was thus born in either 281 AC or 282 AC.

Harwin

Birth

Harwin heard the tale of Eddard Stark and Ashara Dayne when he was no older than ten.[27] Eddard Stark and Ashara Dayne met each other in 281 AC. That means this year is the first time Harwin could have heard about it. This makes Harwin's earliest year of birth 271 AC.

Harwin was thus born in 271 AC or after.

Harwin Strong

Birth

Harwin Strong had been knighted by 105 AC.[104] With the minimum age of fifteen,[N 2] Harwin cannot have been younger than fourteen turning fifteen in 105 AC. This would place his birth in 90 AC. It is possible, however, that Harwin had been older in 105 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Harwin was thus born in or before 90 AC.

Harwyn Hoare

Birth

Harwyn Hoare died at the age of sixty-four.[111] Given that he could not have died after 45 BC (see calculation for his death below), 109 BC is the last possible year of birth for Harwyn.

No further specifications can be given. Harwyn was thus born in or before 109 BC.

Death

Harwyn Hoare was succeeded as King of the Isles and the Rivers by his son, Halleck Hoare, and Halleck was in turn succedeed by his son, Harren Hoare. Halleck is known to have reigned for at least three years[112] and Harren is known to have succeeded his father by 42 BC.[41] Therefore 45 BC is the last possible year of death for Harwyn.

No further specifications can be given. Harwyn thus died in or before 45 BC.

Harys Haigh

Birth

Harys Haigh would have been at least twelve years old when his son Walder had been born. Walder was born in 295 AC the latest (see Walder Haigh), meaning that Harys was born at least twelve years prior, in 283 AC.

Harys was the eldest child of Perriane Frey. Perriane was born in 239 AC the earliest (see Perriane Frey), meaning that Harys was born the earliest twelve years later, in 251 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Harys was thus born in or between 251 AC and 283 AC.

Hazel Harte

Birth

Hazel Harte was the mother of Daenaera Velaryon,[3] who was born in 127 AC (see Daenaera Velaryon). Hazel would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Daenaera's birth, meaning that 115 AC is the latest possible year of birth for Hazel.

Following rule #5, Hazel was no older than ~52 years old at the birth of her child, Daenaera. Therefore Hazel would have been born no earlier than ~75 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Hazel was thus born in or between ~75 AC and 115 AC.

Death

Hazel Harte died of Winter Fever, an epidemic disease which struck Westeros from 132 AC to 133 AC.[3]

No further specifications can be given. Hazel thus died in either 132 AC or 133 AC.

Hazzea

Birth

Hazzea was four years old in 300 AC.[113] That gives her the following options:

  • 3 turning 4 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 296 AC
  • 4 turning 5 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 295 AC

No further specifications can be given. Hazzea was thus born in either 295 AC or 296 AC.

Helicent Uffering

Birth

Helicent Uffering is judged to be about forty years old by Duncan the Tall in 211 AC.[67] This would place Helicent’s birth around 171 AC.

Henly (Old)

Birth

Henly is well past seventy in 299 AC.[114] Being "well past seventy" in 299 AC would place Henly's birth "well past" 229 AC. The description of Henly's age suggests that he has not yet turned eighty. Henly could thus be anything between seventy-one and seventy-nine, placing his birth in or between 220 AC and 228 AC.

Note: "Well past seventy" would most likely mean that Henly is not seventy-one, or seventy-two, which is both close to seventy. However, without any specifications on that, it cannot be said with certainty how far from seventy Henly is, thus, the minimum of an age of seventy-one is taken.

Henly (Young)

Birth

Henly is well past fifty in 299 AC.[114] Being "well past fifty" in 299 AC would place Henly’s birth "well past" 249 AC. The description of Henly's age suggests that he has not yet turned sixty. Henly could thus be anything between fifty-one and fifty-nine, placing his birth in or between 240 AC and 248 AC.

Note: "Well past fifty" would most likely mean that Henly is not fifty-one, or fifty-two, which is both close to fifty. However, without any specifications on that, it cannot be said with certainty how far from fifty Henly is, thus, the minimum of an age of fifty-one is taken.

Henrietta Woodhull

Birth

Henrietta Woodhull was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden’s Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty, this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Henrietta was thus born in or between 103 AC and 133 AC.

High Septon (child)

Birth

The High Septon was elected at the age of eight[115][116] as the new High Septon after the death of the High Septon (stonemason).[116] As the stonemason died in or between 162 and 170 AC (see High Septon (stonemason)), the child was eight in or between 154 and 162 AC.

No further specifications can be given. The High Septon was thus born in or between 154 AC and 162 AC.

Death

The High Septon outlived King Baelor I Targaryen, who died in 171 AC.[116]

No further specifications can be given. The High Septon thus died in 171 AC or after.

High Septon (Dance of the Dragons)

Death

The High Septon was too old and frail to make the journey from Oldtown to King's Landing in 129 AC.[117] However, a High Septon did make the journey two years later to attend and pronounce the marriage vows at the wedding of Prince Aegon and Princess Jaehaera Targaryen in 131 AC.[46] It can therefore be assumed that these are two different High Septons.

No further specifications can be given. The High Septon thus died in or between 129 AC and 131 AC.

High Septon (stonemason)

Death

The High Septon died one year after being elected High Septon. Both his election and his death occurred during the reign of King Baelor I Targaryen.[116] As Baelor reigned from 161 to early 171 AC,[116] and the stonemason's successor, High Septon (child), was the High Septon by 170 AC, he could not have died any earlier than 162 AC and no later than 170 AC.

No further specifications can be given. The High Septon thus died in or between 162 AC and 170 AC.

Hobber Redwyne

Birth

Hobber Redwyne is at least one year older than his little sister, Desmera Redwyne,[118] who was born in 283 AC (see Desmera Redwyne). This means that one year earlier, 282 AC, is the latest possible year of birth for Hobber.

No further specifications can be given. Hobber was thus born in or before 282 AC.

Hobert Hightower

Birth

Hobert Hightower was sixty years old in 130 AC.[94] As the source for his age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, Hobert was thus born in 70 AC.

Hodor

Hodor's father, Old Nan's grandson, died in the Greyjoy's Rebellion,[33] 289 AC, but Hodor is very evidently older than nine years old in AGOT. He is addressed as a "stableboy",[119] but there are adult stableboys.[72] The one point of clarification we have is that Maester Luwin refers to Hodor as a "man",[120] so he is at least sixteen at the start of 299 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Hodor was thus born in or before 283 AC.

Holly

Birth

Holly is judged to be fifteen or sixteen years old in 300 AC.[121] This gives Holly the following options:

  • 14 turning 15 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 285 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC

No further specifications can be given. Holly was thus born in either 283 AC, 284 AC or 285 AC.

Horas Redwyne

Birth

Horas Redwyne is at least one year older than his little sister, Desmera Redwyne,[118] who was born in 283 AC (see Desmera Redwyne). This means that one year earlier, 282 AC, is the latest possible year of birth for Horas.

No further specifications can be given. Horas was thus born in or before 282 AC.

Hosteen Frey

Birth

Hosteen Frey is the eldest child of Walder Frey by his third wife, Amarei Crakehall, whereas his older brother Luceon is the youngest child of Walder Frey by his second wife, Cyrenna Swann.[12] Luceon was born no earlier than 248 AC (see Luceon Frey). As Luceon and Hosteen have different mothers, it is possible they were born in the same year, meaning that Hosteen’s earliest possible year of birth is 248 AC as well.

Hosteen is older than his younger sister Lythene by at least one year. Lythene was born in 259 AC the latest (see Lythene Frey), meaning that Hosteen was born no later than one year before, in 258 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Hosteen was thus born in or between 248 AC and 258 AC.

Note: Hosteen Frey is described to have been twice as old as Loras Tyrell in early 298 AC,[22] who had been fiteen or sixteen years old at the time, as he was born in 282 AC (see Loras Tyrell). Being exactly twice as old as fifteen or sixteen would make Hosteen thirty or thirty-two years old in early 298 AC. Hosteen's possible years of birth (born in or between 249 AC and 258 AC), show that Hosteen was between the ages of forty and forty-nine in 298 AC. With Loras Tyrell's age in mind, this quote from Lord Walder could suggest that Hosteen is closer to forty in age than to forty-nine, as having been forty-nine would have made him three times as old as Loras had been at the time.

Hostella Frey

Birth

Hostella Frey was not yet born in late 299 AC, but has been born by early 300 AC.[28]

No further specifications can be given. Hostella was thus born in either late 299 AC or early 300 AC.

Hoster Blackwood

Birth

Hoster Blackwood is sixteen years old in 300 AC.[20] This gives Hoster the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 283 AC

No further specifications can be given. Hoster was thus born in either 283 AC or 284 AC.

Hoster Frey

Birth

Hoster Frey has been mentioned to have been twelve years old in 299 AC[12] and in 300 AC.[28] Being twelve years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means he was eleven turning twelve in 299 AC, and twelve turning thirteen in 300 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC.

Hoster was thus born in 287 AC.

Hoster Tully

Birth

Hoster Tully was five years older than his brother Brynden.[122] Brynden was born in or between 243 AC and 245 AC (see Brynden Tully). This would place Hosters birth in or between 238 AC and 240 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Hoster was thus born in either 238 AC, 239 AC or 240 AC.

Note: This aligns with the Lords Tully of the past generations. Lord Walder Frey, born in 208 AC, has lived through five Lords Tully's of Riverrun.[25] Lord Medgar Tully, the first of these five, had died between 209 AC and 211 AC.[76][67] That his heir, an unnamed Lord Tully, was a boy of eight in 211 AC,[67] demonstrates that Lord #2 had been born in either 202 AC or 203 AC, depending on whether he had turned eight, or was eight turning nine in 211 AC. It is known Edmure Tully is #5,[25] which means that Hoster Tully had been #4. This implies that the unnamed Lord Tully (#2) mentioned in The Hedge Knight and The Mystery Knight was Hoster's grandfather. This means that there had been one more Lord Tully in between, Lord #3. With Lord #2 born in either 202 AC or 203 AC, and with Lord #4 born in or between 238 AC and 240 AC, that leaves a gap of thirty-five to thirty-eight years, giving an average age of seventeen to nineteen years for Lord # 3 to have his first child. Seeing as how this age gap seems to be a normal age for a Westerosi Lord to have his first child, Hoster's possible birth years seems a perfect fit.

Hother Umber

Birth

Hother Umber had been send to Oldtown roughly fifty years prior to 300 AC. That puts Hother's age in 300 AC at least fifty-nine, since the Citadel accepts students as young as nine years old according to a semi-canon source.[123] This would place Hother's birth no later than 241 AC. It is unknown how old Hother actually was when he went to the Citadel. No further specifications can be given. A minimum year thus cannot be stated.

No further specifications can be given. Hother was thus born in or before 241 AC.

Howard Bullock

Birth

Howard Bullock had been knighted by 49 AC,[51] meaning that he had the minimum age of fifteen. This would place his birth in 34 AC at the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Howard was thus born in or before 34 AC.

Howland Reed

Birth

Howland Reed is known to have been in his thirties in 300 AC.[124] This would mean that Howland, in 300 AC, was between the ages of thirty-one and thirty-nine, though it is possible he would be turning forty later in the year. This would place Howlands birth in or between 260 AC and 269 AC.

However, Howland is known to have left for the Isle of Faces after he had reached manhood,[125] which means he had been sixteen years old, or possibly older.[126] Howland remained at the Isle of Faces the entire winter, which had begun in 279 AC.[15] He finally left in 281 AC, the Year of the False Spring.[125][15] Thus, it can be said that by 281 AC, Howland was sixteen years old or older. Being sixteen years old at minimum in 281 AC would place Howlands birth no later than 265 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Howland was thus born in or between 260 AC and 265 AC.

Hubert Arryn

Birth

Hubert Arryn had six sons by 37 AC.[55] The youngest was therefore born no later than 37 AC, and the eldest no earlier than five year prior, in 32 AC. Hubert would have been at least 12 years old at his eldest's birth, therefore he could not have been born later than 20 AC.

Death

Hubert was alive in 37 AC.[55] By 54 AC, the title of Lord of the Eyrie, that Hubert once held, had passed on Darnold Arryn,[10] indicating Hubert had died by that time.

No further specifications can be given. Hubert thus died in or between 37 AC and 54 AC.

Humfrey Hightower

Birth

Humfrey Hightower is the youngest child of Lord Leyton Hightower. In 300 AC, Humfrey is known to have been a knight, placing his minimum age at 15.[N 2] This means he was at least 15 years old in 300 AC, placing his birth no later than 285 AC.

Humfrey's older sister Lynesse was born in roughly 271/272 AC (see Lynesse Hightower). Between Humfrey and Lynesse, there is one other sibling, Gunthor.[28] Since it cannot be specified whether these three siblings have the same mother, two of them might have been born in the same year (as per rule #2). This would make Humfrey's minimum year of birth ~272 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Humfrey was thus born in or between ~272 AC and 285 AC.

Humfrey Wagstaff

Birth

Humfrey Wagstaff was sixty-five years old when Brienne of Tarth was sixteen.[95] Brienne was born in 280 AC (see Brienne of Tarth). This would make Brienne sixteen years old in both 296 AC and 297 AC. That gives Humfrey the following options:

  • 64 turning 65 in 296 AC, placing his birth in 231 AC
  • 65 turning 66 in 296 AC, placing his birth in 230 AC
  • 64 turning 65 in 297 AC, placing his birth in 232 AC
  • 65 turning 66 in 297 AC, placing his birth in 231 AC

No further specifications can be given. Humfrey was thus born in either 230 AC, 231 AC or 232 AC.

Illifer

Birth

Illifer is described as having been at least sixty years old in 300 AC.[81] This would place Illifer's birth in 240 AC or before.

Irri

Birth

Irri is fifteen years old in 299 AC.[36]That gives her the following options:

  • 14 turning 15 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC

In 300 AC, Irri was sixteen years old.[28] That gives her the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC

No further specifications can be given. Irri was thus born in either 283 AC or 284 AC.

Death

Jack Musgood was Lord Commander of the Night's Watch at the time of the Battle at Long Lake in 226 AC.[127] In 239 AC, Brynden Rivers was elected the new Lord Commander of the Night's Watch,[128] indicating Jack had passed away by that time.

No further specifications can be given. Jack thus died in or between 226 AC and 239 AC.

Jaehaerys II Targaryen

Birth

Jaehaerys Targaryen was fifteen years old in 240 AC,[128] thirty-four years old in 259 AC,[85] and thirty-seven in 262 AC.[85] As all sources for Jaehaerys's age concern a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Jaehaerys's birth in 225 AC.

Note: This information from The World of Ice & Fire supercedes a report from previous Q&A where Martin claimed that Jaehaerys II died at thirty-nine.[129]

Jaime Frey

Birth

Jaime Frey has not yet been born in late 299 AC.[36] In early 300 AC, Jaime has been born.[28]

No further specifications can be given. Jaime was thus born in either late 299 AC or early 300 AC.

Jammos Frey is older than his brother Whalen Frey by at least one year. The last possible year of birth of Whalen is 268 AC (see Whalen Frey), making Jammos's last possible year of birth one year before, in 267 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jammos Frey was thus born in either 265 AC, 266 AC or 267 AC.

Janei Lannister

Birth

Janei Lannister is two years old in 299 AC.[36] She is three years old in 300 AC.[28] That gives her the following options:

  • 1 turning 2 in 299 AC, and 2 turning 3 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 297 AC
  • 2 turning 3 in 299 AC, and 3 turning 4 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 296 AC

No further specifications can be given. Janei was thus born in either 296 AC or 297 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Janna was thus born in or between 247 AC and 282 AC.

Janos Slynt

Birth

Janos Slynt was forty years old at the most in 300 AC, no older.[130] Being maximally forty years old in 300 AC would place Janos's birth no earlier than 260 AC.

Janos has four children. His youngest son, Danos, is a page.[36] Children become pages from the age of six at the youngest.[N 3] Danos has two elder brothers, Mattos and Jothos, who are both squires. Mattos, as the eldest of the three boys, would be at least two years older than Danos, and thus have the minimum age of eight. Janos also has a daughter, but it is unknown how old she is, and whether she was born before Mattos, or after.

With Janos's eldest son at the minimum age of eight in 299 AC, the boy would have been born in 291 AC the latest. Janos would have been at least twelve years old at the birth of his firstborn child, which would place his birth no later than twelve years prior to 291 AC, thus in 279 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Janos Slynt was thus born in or between 260 AC and 279 AC.

Note: Since Janos' age is judged to be forty or younger though, it seems to be suggested that Janos' birth took place closer to 260 AC than to 279 AC.

Jared Frey

Birth

Jared Frey is Walder Frey's eldest child by his second wife, Cyrenna Swann, whereas his older sister Perianne is Walder Frey's youngest child by his first wife, Perra Royce.[12] As they have different mothers, it is possible they were born in the same year. Perriane was born the earliest in 239 AC (see Perriane Frey), meaning that Jared's earliest possible year of birth is 239 AC as well.

Jared is older than his younger brother Luceon by at least one year. Luceon was born in 258 AC the latest (see Luceon Frey), meaning that Jared was born no later than one year before, in 257 AC.

However, Jared is said to have been "a stooped man of fifty years" in early 299 AC.[22] This gives Jared the following options:

  • 49 turning 50 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 249 AC
  • 50 turning 51 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 248 AC

No further specifications can be given. Jared was thus born in either 248 AC or 249 AC.

Jason Lannister

Birth

Jason Lannister had already been knighted in 112 AC.[104] As knighthood is generally received no earlier than the age of fifteen,[N 2] Jason cannot have been younger than 15 in 112 AC, thereby placing his birth no later than 97 AC.

Jason Lannister's twin brother Tyland stated that he had only been "a child" in 105 AC, when oaths were sworn to defend Rhaenyra Targaryen's position as heir to the throne,[94] meaning that Jason had been a child as well at the time. This indicated that Jason and Tyland had not yet turned sixteen, the age of manhood,[131] in 105 AC when the oaths were sworn, though it is possible that they would turn sixteen later that year. This places Jason's birth no earlier than 89 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jason was thus born in or between 89 AC and 97 AC.

Jason Lannister (son of Gerold)

Birth

Jason Lannister was born to Lady Rohanne Webber and Lord Gerold Lannister. Rohanne Webber disappeared within a year of having given birth to Jason.[61] As it is not specified whether the event occurred in another year, this would leave both the years 229 AC and 230 AC as a possibility.

However, a semi-canon source[132][56] shows that Jason had been nine years younger than his brother Tytos, who was born in 220 AC (see Tytos Lannister). This would eliminate 230 AC as a possibility, confirming that Jason was indeed born in 229 AC.

Jasper Arryn

Birth

Jasper Arryn's eldest child, Jon Arryn,[42] was born no later than ~220 AC (see Jon Arryn). Jasper would have been at least 12 years old at his birth, so he was born no later than ~208 AC.

Death

Jasper Arryn was succeeded as Lord of the Eyrie by his eldest son, Jon Arryn.[42] Jon is known to have been the Lord of the Eyrie when he took the eight-year-old Eddard Stark as a ward.[133][134] As Eddard was born in 263 AC (see Eddard Stark), he was seven turning eight in 271 AC and eight turning nine in 272 AC. Therefore Jasper could have died no later than 272 AC.

Jasper Waynwood

Birth

Jasper Waynwood is his mother Alys Arryn's ninth child.[42] She would have been at least 20 years old at his birth. Alys was born no earlier than ~219 AC, therefore Jasper was born no earlier than ~239 AC.

Alys birthed her children once a year, so Jasper cannot have been born later than one year after his next oldest sibling, who was the mother of Harrold Hardyng.[42] Harrold was born no later than 282 AC (see Harrold Hardyng). Harold's mother would have been at least 12 years old at his birth, so she was born no later than 270 AC. Therefore Jasper was born no later than 271 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jasper was thus born in or between ~239 AC and 271 AC.

Death

Jasper died at age 3.[42] He was born no earlier than ~239 AC, so he died no earlier than 3 years after, in ~242 AC. He was born no later than 271 AC, so he died no later than 4 years after, in 275 AC, (the year after turning 3, but sometime before his 4th birthday).

No further specifications can be given. Jasper thus died in or between ~242 AC and 275 AC.

Jax

Birth

Jax is well past forty in 300 AC, with sons and grandsons of his own.[135] That places his birth before 259 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Jennelyn Fowler

Birth

Jennelyn Fowler and her twin sister, Jeyne, are older than Princess Arianne Martell,[136] who was born in 276 AC (see Arianne Martell).

No further specifications can be given. Jennelyn was thus born in or before 275 AC.

Jeor Mormont

Birth

Jeor Mormont notes in 298 AC that "in two years time" he will turn seventy.[72] This shows that he would have turned seventy in the year 300 AC, and has thus been born in 230 AC.

Jeyne Arryn

Birth

Jeyne Arryn was thirty-five years old in 129 AC.[53] As the source for her age is a historical work, Rule #3 applies. Jeyne was thus born in 94 AC.

Jeyne Beesbury

Death

Jeyne Beesbury is alive in 299 AC,[36] but by early 300 AC she had died of a wasting illness.[28] No further specifications can be given. Jeyne thus died in either late 299 AC or early 300 AC.

Jeyne Fowler

Birth

Jeyne Fowler and her twin sister, Jennelyn, are older than Princess Arianne Martell,[136] who was born in 276 AC (see Arianne Martell).

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in or before 275 AC.

Jeyne Goodbrook

Birth

Jeyne Goodbrook is mentioned to be six years old in 299 AC[12] and in 300 AC.[28] Being six years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means she was five turning six in 299 AC, and six turning seven in 300 AC, placing her birth in 293 AC.

Jeyne Heddle

Birth

Jeyne Heddle is judged to be sixteen years old in 300 AC by Brienne of Tarth.[137] Brienne is not good at judging ages, but would Brienne be correct, it would give Jeyne the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC

It is also stated that Jeyne is eighteen years old during 300 AC,[28] suggesting that Brienne judged Jeyne's age wrong. Being eighteen years old in 300 AC would give the following options:

  • 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 281 AC

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in either 281 AC or 282 AC.

Jeyne Lydden

Birth

Jeyne Lydden's eldest son, Aegon Frey (son of Stevron), was born in ~249 AC. (See the Aegon Frey calculation.) Jeyne would have been at least twelve years old at his birth, placing her birth in or before 237 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in or before 237 AC.

Death

Jeyne gave birth to two children. Her second child, Maegelle Frey, was born no earlier than 250 AC. At some point after Maegelle's birth, Jeyne fell from a horse and died. Stevron Frey's wife after Jeyne's death, Marsella Waynwood, gave birth to her first child, Walton Frey, between 250268 AC. (See the Walton Frey calculation.) As Jeyne must have died before Stevron took a new wife, she must have died also within that year range.

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne thus died between 250 AC and 268 AC.

Jeyne Lothston

Birth

Jeyne Lothston was fourteen years old in 178 AC.[68] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Jeyne's birth in 164 AC.

Jeyne Manderly

Birth

Jeyne Manderly's eldest child, Sansa Stark,[31][138] was born no later than 161 AC (see Sansa Stark (daughter of Rickon)). Jeyne would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 149 AC.

Death

Jeyne cannot have died before her youngest child, Serena Stark,[31][138] was born. Sansa was born no earlier than 141 AC (see Serena Stark), so Jeyne died no earlier than 141 AC.

Jeyne Marbrand

Birth

Jeyne Marbrand's eldest child, Tywin Lannister,[52] was born in 242 AC (see Tywin Lannister). Jeyne would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 230 AC.

Following rule #5, Jeyne was no older than ~52 years old at the birth of her youngest child, Gerion Lannister,[52] who was born in 255 AC.[61] Therefore Jeyne would have been born no earlier than ~203 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in or between ~203 AC and 230 AC.

Jeyne Merryweather

Birth

Jeyne Merryweather was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden’s Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty, this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC. A rumor was spread before the Maiden's Day Ball that Jeyne was fond of dressing in squire's garb in order to visit the brothels along the Street of Silk. In order for the rumor to be believable, Jeyne would need to be born well before 133 AC, at least twelve years old and flowered.

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in or between 103 AC and 121 AC.

Jeyne Mooton

Birth

Jeyne Mooton was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden’s Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty, this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

Jeyne Poole

Birth

Jeyne Poole is the same age as Sansa Stark in 298 AC.[139] Sansa, having been born in 286 AC, is eleven turning twelve years old in 298 AC (see Sansa Stark). Since Sansa’s nameday is at the end of the year,[140] and the mention of Sansa and Jeyne being the same age is made earlier in the year (before Sansa’s twelfth nameday), this means that Jeyne was eleven in 298 AC. This gives her the following options:

  • 10 turning 11 in 298 AC, placing her birth in 287 AC
  • 11 turning 12 in 298 AC, placing her birth in 286 AC

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in either 286 AC or 287 AC.

Jeyne Smallwood

Birth

Jeyne Smallwood was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden’s Day Ball in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty, this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

Birth

Jeyne Waters was born the first, together with her twin, Jon, of the children of Princess Elaena Targaryen. Elaena gave birth to her twins after having been freed from the Maidenvault, which occured in 171 AC.[39][116] Thus, 171 AC is the first possible year of Jeyne's birth.

Jeyne was born before her mother's first marriage took place in 176 AC.[116] Thus, 176 AC is the last possible year of birth for Jeyne.

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in or between 171 AC and 176 AC.

Jeyne Westerling

Birth

Jeyne Westerling is known to be sixteen years old in 299 AC.[141] Jaime judges her age to be fifteen or sixteen in 300 AC.[142] Being sixteen years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC places Jeyne's birth in 283 AC.

Jeyne Westerling (wife of Maegor I)

Birth

Jeyne Westerling was older than Elinor Costayne,[49] who was born in 28 AC (see Elinor Costayne).

No further specifications can be given. Jeyne was thus born in or before 27 AC.

Death

Jeyne Westerling gave birth to a stillborn child in 47 AC, who was born three months too soon. Jeyne did not live long after the birth.[49] As it is unknown when in the year Jeyne exactly gave birth, and how short “soon” is, it can be said that Jeyne died in either 47 AC or 48 AC.

Jhiqui

Birth

Jhiqui is fourteen years old in 299 AC.[36] That gives her the following options:

  • 13 turning 14 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 285 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC

In 300 AC, Jhiqui was sixteen years old.[28] That gives her the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC

284 AC is the only overlapping year. Jhiqui was thus born in 284 AC.

  • 15 turning 16 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 281 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 282 AC

No further specifications can be given. Jhogo was thus born in either 281 AC, 282 AC or 283 AC.

Joanna Lannister

Birth

Joanna Lannister was the eldest child, born during Jason Lannister's second marriage. Jason was born in 229 AC (see Jason Lannister (son of Gerold)), and according to a semi-canon source,[132] had been thirteen years old when he became a father to his first child, Lynora Hill. According to this same source, at the age of fifteen Jason married to Alys Stackspear. As the two sources for Jason's age at those events concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing his marriage to Alys Stackspear in 244 AC. By the time of the marriage, Alys had already been pregnant. Their child, Damon Lannister, was thus born within nine months of the marriage. As it is unknown when during the year Jason and Alys were wed, Damon was thus born in either 244 AC or 245 AC. Alys died during the birth, and within two weeks Jason remarried, this time to Marla Prester. Joanna was the first child born to Jason and Marla. As Joanna and Damon are half-siblings, and as it is not know how far along Alys Stackspear had been when she had gotten married, nor when during the year Jason had been born, it is possible for Joanna and Damon to have been born during the same year. As 244 AC is the first possible year of birth for Damon, Joanna's first possible year of birth is 244 AC as well.

Joanna's eldest children, Jaime and Cersei, were born in 266 AC.[61] Joanna would have been at least twelve years at their birth, placing her birth no later than in 254 AC the latest. However, Joanna’s younger brother, Stafford, was born no later than 253 AC (see Stafford Lannister). Joanna would have been born at least one year earlier than Stafford, placing her birth no later than 252 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Joanna was thus born in or between 244 AC and 252 AC.

Note: Joanna had been a supposed mistress to Prince Aerys Targaryen in 259 AC.[16] As such, she was likely born closer to the maximum of 244 AC than to the minimum of 252 AC, as having been born in 244 AC would have made her fifteen years old in 259 AC, while having been born in 252 AC would have made her seven years old in 259 AC.

Death

Joanna Lannister died giving birth to Tyrion Lannister. Tyrion was born in 273 AC,[61] placing Joanna's death in the same year.

Joanna Lannister thus died in 273 AC.

Jocelyn Baratheon

Death

Jocelyn Baratheon is known to have outlived her husband, who died in 92 AC.[11][64] Jocelyn had died by 129 AC.[53]

No further specifications can be given. Jocelyn thus died in or between 92 AC and 129 AC.

Jocelyn Penrose

Birth

Jocelyn Penrose was the third child of Ronnel Penrose and Elaena Targaryen.[144] Jocelyn would have been born at least one year after her older sibling, Laena. Laena was born in 185 AC the earliest (see Laena Penrose), indicating that Jocelyn was born no earlier than 186 AC.

As Jocelyn's mother Elaena was born in 150 AC (see Elaena Targaryen), she would have reached the end of her child-bearing years near 200 AC, when she turned fifty. Jocelyn was the third of the four children of Ronnel and Elaena, indicating that she was born no later than 199 AC, the year Elaena turned forty-nine.

No further specifications can be given. Jocelyn was thus born in or between 186 AC and ~199 AC.

Jocelyn Stark

Birth

Jocelyn Stark's father, Willam, died in 226 AC.[127] As it is unknown when during the year Willam died, and as Jocelyn could have been born nine months after Willam's death, Jocelyn thus could have been born in 227 AC at the latest.

Jocelyn's older brother, Edwyle Stark,[31] was born no earlier than ~197 AC. Jocelyn would have been born at least a year later, therefore she was born no no earlier than ~198 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jocelyn was thus born in or between ~198 AC and 227 AC.

Death

Jocelyn had three daughters.[17] She cannot have died before they were born. Jocelyn would have been at least 12 years old at the birth of the first, 13 at the second, and 14 at the third. As Jocelyn was born no earlier than ~198 AC, she therefore died no earlier than ~212 AC.

Joffrey Arryn

Birth

Joffrey Arryn became the Knight of the Gate in 124 AC,[4] implying he had been knighted no later than 124 AC. As Joffrey would have been at least fifteen year old at receiving his knighthood, he could not have been born any later than 109 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Joffrey was thus born in of before 109 AC.

Death

Joffrey Arryn was alive in 136 AC.[4] By 196 AC, the title of Lord of the Eyrie, that Joffrey once held, had passed on Donnel Arryn,[145] indicating Joffrey had died by that time.

No further specifications can be given. Joffrey thus died in or between 136 AC and 196 AC.

Joffrey Baratheon

Birth

Joffrey Baratheon is twelve years old in 298 AC.[146] On the day of his wedding, the first day of the first moon of the year 300 AC, Joffrey is thirteen years old.[147] Since Joffrey's thirteenth nameday is depicted as occurring on another day as his wedding, and since his wedding occurs on the first day of 300 AC, it is known that the first day of 300 AC is not the day that Joffrey turns thirteen. In fact, it shows that Joffrey turned thirteen in the year 299 AC, and would be turning fourteen in 300 AC. That places Joffrey's birth in 286 AC.

Joffrey Caswell

Birth

Joffrey Caswell was twenty years old in 212 AC.[92] That givens him the following options:

  • 19 turning 20, placing his birth in 192 AC
  • 20 turning 21, placing his birth in 191 AC

No further specifications can be given. Joffrey was thus born in either 191 AC or 192 AC.

Joffrey Doggett

Birth

Joffrey Doggett had been knighted by 43 AC,[55] meaning that he had the minimum age of fifteen. This would place his birth in 28 AC or before. No further specifications can be given.

Death

Joffrey Doggett was alive in 59 AC.[11] No further specifications can be given.

Joffrey Lonmouth

Birth

Joffrey Lonmouth had been knighted by 114 AC,[94] meaning the youngest he could have been that year was fourteen turning fifteen. That places his birth in 99 AC the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Joffrey was thus born in or before 99 AC.

Johanna Swann

Birth

Johanna Swann was fifteen years old when she was captured and enslaved by Lyseni captains of the Triarchy.[64] The Triarchy was formed in 96 AC following the victory of the alliance of Lys, Myr and Tyrosh against Volantis in the Battle of the Borderland.[64] That means that 96 AC is the earliest possible year for Johanna to have been captured.

Abduction and enslavement became a common practise by the captains of the Triarchy, and was one of the causes that pushed Lord Corlys Velaryon and Prince Daemon Targaryen to launch their war against the Triarchy in 106 AC for the control of the Stepstones. By 109 AC, they had gained total control of the waters in between the islands of the Stepstones, thus stopping the practice of abductions.[64] That means that 109 AC is the last possible year for Johanna to have been captured.

As the source for Johanna's age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, this places her birth in or between 81 AC and 94 AC.

Jojen Reed

Birth

Jojen Reed is thirteen years old in 299 AC.[148] In 300 AC, Jojen is still thirteen years old.[28] Being thirteen in both 299 AC and 300 AC gives 286 AC as only option for Jojen's birth year.

Jon Arryn

Birth

Jon Arryn is mentioned to have been twenty years older than Hoster Tully.[149] Naturally, this does not have to mean that mean Hoster is exactly twenty years younger than Jon, but indicates that they are about twenty years apart in age, meaning that Jon Arryn is roughly twenty years older than Hoster Tully. Hoster Tully was born in or between 238 AC and 240 AC (see Hoster Tully). That means that Jon Arryn was born roughly in or between 218 AC and 220 AC, with the possibility of his birth having occurred a few years before or after.

Death

Jon Arryn dies a fortnight after the twelfth nameday of Joffrey Baratheon.[150] Joffrey Baratheon is known to have been born in 286 AC (see Joffrey Baratheon), meaning that Jon Arryn died in 298 AC.

Jon Brax

Birth

Jon Brax has been mentioned to have been three years old in 299 AC[12] and in 300 AC.[28] Being three years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means he was two turning three in 299 AC, and three turning four in 300 AC, placing his birth in 296 AC.

Jon was thus born in 296 AC.

Jon Bulwer

Birth

Jon Bulwer is the father of Alysanne Bulwer,[36] who was born in 291 AC (see Alysanne Bulwer). Jon would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Alysanne's birth, meaning that he could not have been born any later than 279 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jon was thus born in or before 279 AC.

Death

Jon Bulwer's daughter, Alysanne, was born in 291 AC, meaning that Jon couldn't have died any earlier than 290 AC. Alysanne is the lady of Blackcrown in 299 AC,[36] meaning that Jon couldn't have died any later than 299 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jon thus died in or between 290 AC and 299 AC.

Jon Connington

Birth

Jon Connington is known to be younger than Prince Rhaegar Targaryen,[151] who was born in 259 AC. That places Jon's birth in 260 AC the earliest.

Jon ruled in his own name for several years after his father died.[151] Since Jon ruled until his exiled in 283 AC, he had been ruling in his own right since at least 281 AC, as the use of "years" indicated a minimum of two years (a maximum cannot be determined). Indeed, Jon is identified as "Lord" by the Tourney at Harrenhal in 281 AC already.[15] As Jon ruled in his own right, this means that by 281 AC at least, Jon had turned sixteen, indicating that Jon could not have been born after 265 AC.

Tywin Lannister was appointed as Hand of the King at the age of twenty, and was thereby the youngest man ever to become Hand in the history of the Seven Kingdoms.[16][61] This means that Jon was at least twenty-one years old when he was appointed Hand of the Kind in 282 AC, placing his birth no later than 261 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jon Connington was thus born in either 260 AC or 261 AC.

Note: Rhaegar Targaryen visits Griffin's Roost on his way back from Dorne, when Jon's father is still alive. Though there are plenty of reasons why Rhaegar could have been in Dorne, it is possible Rhaegar had gone to Sunspear to meet with the Martells regarding his betrothal or upcoming wedding to Elia Martell (betrothal announced in early 279 AC, wedding in early 280 AC). In this case, Rhaegar's visit to Griffin's Roost would have taken place in either 278 AC (after the failure of Steffon Baratheon's mission) or 279 AC. This would suggest that Jon's father died in either 278 AC, 279 AC, 280 AC or 281 AC, as Jon was already ruling Griffin's Roost by the tourney at Harrenhal in 281 AC. Jon mentions Rhaegar had been young, and he himself even younger, at Rhaegar's visit to Griffin's Roost. If the meeting indeed took place in 278/279 AC, Jon Connington would have been between the ages of sixteen and nineteen, based on the two possible years of birth for Jon.

Rumoured death

Jon Connington is mentioned to have left the Golden Company a dozen years ago in 300 AC. Later, this is specified as to actually have been twelve years,[152] placing Jon's "exile" from the Golden Company in 288 AC, five years after the Rebellion ended.

Jon Connnigton had spent five years with the Golden Company.[152] For him to have spent five years with the Golden Company during his exile, with his exile beginning only in 283 AC, this year is the first possible moment he could have joined. Since 288 AC is the year he certainly left the company, it shows that Jon joined the Golden Company within the first year of his exile, in 283 AC.

Jon Fossoway

Birth

Jon Fossoway was a knight in 299 AC,[153] meaning he was at least 15 years old. Therefore Jon was born in or before 284 AC.

Jon Snow

Birth

Jon Snow is fourteen years old when the direwolves are found[13] and during the welcoming feast in Winterfell.[146] Both events occur in 298 AC. After he has turned fifteen, Tyrion Lannister and Yoren start going south. When Yoren arrives at King's Landing, Arya has just witnessed a conversation between Varys and Illyrio Mopatis, concerning, amongst others, Margaery Tyrell, who is mentioned to still be fourteen years old.[154] This means that this event still takes place in 298 AC, since it is known that Margaery, having been born in 283 AC, is fourteen turning fifteen in 298 AC (see Margaery Tyrell). This means that Jon is fourteen turning fifteen in 298 AC, meaning that he was born in 283 AC as well.

Jon Snow was thus born in 283 AC.

Jon Umber (husband of Serena)

Death

Jon Umber was the first husband of Serena Stark.[31][155] Jon cannot have died before the birth of his wife. Serena was born no earlier than 141 AC (see Serena Stark), so Jon could have died no earlier than 141 AC.

Jon would have died before his wife remarried to Edric Stark.[31] Serena and Edric would have married no later than the year their first child, Cregard Stark,[31] was born. Cregard was born no later than 208 AC (see Cregard Stark), so Jon died no later than 208 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jon thus died in or between 141 AC and 208 AC.

Jon Waters

Birth

Jon Waters was born the first, together with his twin, Jeyne, of the children of Princess Elaena Targaryen. Elaena gave birth to her twins after having been freed from the Maidenvault, which occured in 171 AC.[39][116] Thus, 171 AC is the first possible year of Jon's birth.

Jon was born before his mother's first marriage took place in 176 AC.[116] Thus, 176 AC is the last possible year of birth for Jon.

No further specifications can be given. Jon was thus born in or between 171 AC and 176 AC.

Jonelle Cerwyn

Birth

Jonelle Cerwyn is thirty years old in 298 AC.[156] This gives her the following options:

  • 29 turning 30 in 298 AC, placing her birth in 268 AC
  • 30 turning 31 in 298 AC, placing her birth in 267 AC

In 300 AC, she is thirty-two years old.[28] This gives her the following options:

  • 31 turning 32 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 268 AC
  • 32 turning 33 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 267 AC

However, Jonelle was also thirty-two years old in late 299 AC.[36] Being thirty-two years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC shows that she was thirty-one turning thirty-two in 299 AC, and thirty-two turning thirty-three in 300 AC.

Jonelle was thus born in 267 AC.

Jonnel Stark

Birth

Jonnel Stark was the eldest son of Cregan Stark by his third wife, Lady Lynara Stark.[31] He could have been born the same year as his youngest half-sibling by Cregan's second marriage, Mariah Stark. Mariah was born no earlier than 136 AC (see Mariah Stark), meaning that Jonnel would have been born no earlier than 136 AC.

Jonnel would have been at least one year older than his younger brother, Edric Stark.[31] As the latest possible year of birth for Edric is 180 AC (see Edric Stark), Jonnel would have been born no later than 179 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jonnel was thus born in or between 136 AC and 179 AC.

Death

Jonnel Stark succeeded his father Cregan Stark as Lord of Winterfell. Cregan died no earlier than 157 AC (see Cregan Stark), meaning that Jonnel could not have died before 157 AC either. Moreover, Jonnel was himself succeeded by his brother Barthogan, who died no later than 209 AC (see Barthogan Stark), meaning that Jonnel could not have died after 209 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Jonnel thus died in or between 157 AC and 209 AC.

Jonos Arryn

Birth

Jonos Arryn's older brother, Ronnel Arryn,[55] was born no earlier than 17 BC (see Ronnel Arryn (king)). Jonos would have been born at least a year later, therefore he was born no earlier than 16 BC.

Jonos Frey

Birth

Jonos Frey is mentioned to be eight years old in 299 AC[12] and in 300 AC.[28] Being eight years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means he was seven turning eight in 299 AC, and eight turning nine in 300 AC, placing his birth in 291 AC.

Jorah Mormont

Birth

Jorah Mormont notes that he is thrice the age of Daenerys Targaryen, in 299 AC.[157][158] Daenerys, at that moment, is fifteen years old. That means that Jorah's age is somewhere close to forty-five. This aligns with Daenerys thinking Jorah to have passed forty in either 297 AC or 298 AC,[159] and with Tyrion guessing Jorah had certainly passed forty in 300 AC.[160]

Jorah had left Westeros in exile five years prior to 298 AC,[161] thus in 293 AC. Jorah had been married to Lynesse Hightower after the Greyjoy Rebellion in 289 AC.[162] Prior to his marriage to Lynesse Hightower, Jorah had been married to another woman for ten years.[90] This would put his age during his first marriage at approximately twenty-five, a normal age for a highborn man, and heir to an house, to marry, in peace time.

Though Jorah most likely does not mean that he is exactly three times as old as Daenerys, it is an indication. It can be concluded that Jorah is around forty-five years old in 299 AC, meaning that he was born around 254 AC.

Jorelle Mormont

Birth

Jorelle Mormont's younger sister Lyanna was born in 290 AC (see Lyanna Mormont). As such, Jorelle would have been born no later than 289 AC, being minimally a year older.

Alysane Mormont, Jorelle's older sister, was born in 273 AC the earliest (see Alysane Mormont). With 273 AC as Alysane's first possible moment of birth, Jorelle's first possible moment of birth would be two years later (as another sister was born in between Alysane and Jorelle). This means that Jorelle was born in 275 AC the earliest.

No further specifications can be given. Jorelle was thus born in or between 275 AC and 289 AC.

Jorgen Velaryon

Birth

Jorgen Velaryon's father, Daemon Velaryon,[51] was born no earlier than 11 BC (see Daemon Velaryon (son of Aethan)). He would have been at least 12 years old at Jorgen's birth, therefore Jorgen was born no earlier than 2 AC.

Jorgen was alive in 50 AC,[51] so he cannot have been born later than then.

No further specifications can be given. Jorgen was thus born in or between 2 AC and 50 AC.

Jory Cassel

Birth

Jory Cassel attended the wedding of Catelyn Tully and Eddard Stark in 283 AC, and at the bedding tore Catelyn's gown in his haste to get her out of it.[163] Jory must have been an adolescent or older at this time, estimate ten years old at the very youngest. Therefore Jory must have been born before 273 AC.

Josmyn Peckledon

Birth

Josmyn Peckledon is said to have been no older than fourteen in 299 AC, after the Battle of the Blackwater.[74] Josmyn was fifteen years old in 300 AC.[60]

Being fourteen years old in 299 AC and fifteen in 300 AC, gives the following options:

  • 13 turning 14 in 299 AC, and 14 turning 15 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 285 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 299 AC, and 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 284 AC

No further specifications can be given. Josmyn was thus born in either 284 AC or 285 AC.

Joy Hill

Birth

Joy Hill was nine or ten when Jaime Lannister had last seen her, as stated in 300 AC.[142] The last time Jaime could have seen Joy was when he fled to Casterly Rock in 298 AC. Joy is ten years old in 298 AC.[118] In 299 AC, Joy is eleven years old. In 300 AC, Joy is still eleven years old.[28]

Being eleven years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC, shows that Joy was ten turning eleven in 299 AC, and is eleven turning twelve in 300 AC. This places Joy's birth in 288 AC.

Joy Penrose

Birth

Joy Penrose was the fourth child of Ronnel Penrose and Elaena Targaryen.[144] Joy would have been born at least one year after her older sibling, Jocelyn. Jocelyn was born in 186 AC the earliest (see Jocelyn Penrose), indicating that Joy was born no earlier than 187 AC.

As Joy's mother Elaena was born in 150 AC (see Elaena Targaryen), she would have reached the end of her child-bearing years near 200 AC, when she turned 50. Joy was the youngest of the four children of Ronnel and Elaena, indicating that she was born no later than 200 AC, the year Elaena turned fifty.

No further specifications can be given. Joy was thus born in or between 187 AC and ~200 AC.

Joyeuse Erenford

Birth

Joyeuse Erenford is known to have been sixteen years old in 299 AC.[22] This gives Joyeuse the following options:

  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC

No further specifications can be given. Joyeuse was thus born in either 282 AC or 283 AC.
