Jason Lannister was a knight from House Lannister. He was the fourth and youngest son of Lord Gerold Lannister and his second wife, Lady Rohanne Webber.^[3]

Character

A fierce child, Jason Lannister grew into a prideful and quarrelsome man with a fiery temper. Though openly scornful of his own brother, Jason was quick to take offense when others disparaged Lord Tytos Lannister.^[4]

History

Jason was born the youngest of four children to Lord Gerold the Golden and his second wife, Lady Rohanne Webber. His mother disappeared within a year after his birth.^[2]

Jason grew up at Casterly Rock where he often quarreled with his weak-willed brother, Lord Tytos Lannister. At age fourteen,^[4] he sired a bastard daughter, Lynora Hill,^[3] by a serving girl. At fifteen, he deflowered Lord Stackspear's maiden daughter,^[4] the Lady Alys,^[3] getting her with child as well. In a rare display of firmness, Lord Tytos insisted that his brother marry the girl, though most believe this was done at the behest of Tytos's wife, the Lady Jeyne Marbrand. Lady Alys died in childbirth, giving Jason a son named Damon. Anxious to avoid further scandals and bastards, Tytos and Jeyne gave Jason a fortnight to mourn, and then compelled him to wed again, this time to Lord Prester's daughter, the Lady Marla. Though she was twice his age,^[4] she gave Jason three daughters and three sons.^[3] After the marriage, Jason departed Casterly Rock to reside with his lady wife at Feastfires, to the relief of even Casterly Rock's maester Beldon.^[4]

When the War of the Ninepenny Kings broke out in 260 AC, as Lord Tytos was no warrior, Ser Jason was given command of the westerlands host—a thousand knights and ten thousand men-at-arms—at the Stepstones. Jason died on Bloodstone.^[2] By some later accounts, he was slain by the Blackfyre pretender, Maelys the Monstrous, but contemporary accounts suggest that it was a flux of the bowels that killed Ser Jason.^[4] After his death, Lord Roger Reyne seized command of the westermen host.^[2]

Descendants

Ser Jason's eldest daughter, the Lady Joanna, wed her first cousin and Jason's nephew, Lord Tywin Lannister. Thus, the main Lannister line descends through Jason via the female line.^[3]
