Elbert Arryn was a member of House Arryn and nephew of Lord Jon Arryn. At the time of his death, he was the heir to the Vale of Arryn.[3]
History
Elbert was born at roughly the same time his father Ser Ronnel Arryn was dying. After the death of his father, Elbert became Lord Jon Arryn's heir.[2]
When Brandon Stark learned that his sister Lyanna had been abducted by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, Brandon raced off to King's Landing accompanied by a party that included Elbert. The party rode into the Red Keep and demanded Rhaegar's head. King Aerys II Targaryen had them all arrested and summoned their fathers to King's Landing to answer for their sons' crimes, but Elbert's father was long deceased by then. Aerys had all the men killed except for Ethan Glover.[3]

A Clash of Kings

Catelyn Stark and Jaime Lannister discuss the death of Brandon Stark in the dungeons of Riverrun. Jaime recalls that Brandon rode into the Red Keep with a few companions,[N 1] while Catelyn remembers the men as Elbert Arryn, Jeffory Mallister, Ethan Glover, and Kyle Royce, and finds it queer that she still remembers their names.[3]
Quotes
Jaime: He rode into the Red Keep with a few companions, shouting for Prince Rhaegar to come out and die. But Rhaegar wasn't there. Aerys sent his guards to arrest them all for plotting his son's murder. The others were lords' sons too, it seems to me.
Catelyn: Ethan Glover was Brandon's squire. He was the only one to survive. The others were Jeffory Mallister, Kyle Royce, and Elbert Arryn, Jon Arryn's nephew and heir. Aerys accused them of treason and summoned their fathers to court to answer the charge, with the sons as hostages. When they came, he had them murdered without trial. Fathers and sons both.[3]

Notes
- ↑ Jaime Lannister recalls that all of Brandon Stark's companions were the sons of lords, but this was a misrecollection since Elbert Arryn was actually the nephew and heir of a lord, as correctly stated by Catelyn.
