Jeffory Mallister was a member of House Mallister during the reign of King Aerys II Targaryen.[1]

History

When news of Lyanna Stark's kidnapping by Prince Rhaegar Targaryen reached her brother, Brandon Stark, he raced to King's Landing accompanied by his party, which included Jeffory. Brandon and his party rode into the Red Keep demanding Rhaegar's head. Rhaegar's father, King Aerys II Targaryen, had them arrested and demanded that their fathers come to King's Landing to answer for their sons' crimes. Aerys had all of them killed save for Ethan Glover.[1]

A Clash of Kings

Brandon Stark rides to King's Landing with four companions, including Jeffory Mallister from Game of Thrones: Histories & Lore

Catelyn Stark and Jaime Lannister discuss the death of Brandon Stark in the dungeons of Riverrun. Jaime recalls that Brandon rode into the Red Keep with a few companions, while Catelyn remembers the men as Jeffory Mallister, Ethan Glover, Kyle Royce, and Elbert Arryn, and finds it queer that she still remembers their names.[1]

Quotes

Jaime: He rode into the Red Keep with a few companions, shouting for Prince Rhaegar to come out and die. But Rhaegar wasn't there. Aerys sent his guards to arrest them all for plotting his son's murder. The others were lords' sons too, it seems to me.
Catelyn: Ethan Glover was Brandon's squire. He was the only one to survive. The others were Jeffory Mallister, Kyle Royce, and Elbert Arryn, Jon Arryn's nephew and heir. Aerys accused them of treason and summoned their fathers to court to answer the charge, with the sons as hostages. When they came, he had them murdered without trial. Fathers and sons both.[1]

Family

Jeffory's relation to Jason Mallister, the Lord of Seagard, is unknown.[N 1]

Notes

  1. ↑ Jaime Lannister recalls that all of Brandon Stark's companions were the sons of lords. This may indicate that Jeffory was a son of Jason Mallister, who became Lord of Seagard before Robert's Rebellion,[2] or the son of a predecessor of Jason. If Jeffory was the son of a Lord of Seagard, Jeffory's father could not have died with him, as Catelyn Stark states the men's fathers did, since Jason Mallister is still alive[3] and any previous Lord of Seagard would have predeceased Jeffory. Additionally, at least one of the group, Elbert Arryn, was actually the nephew and heir of a lord, as correctly stated by Catelyn. Elbert's own father, Ronnel Arryn, was long deceased by the time Elbert died.[4] The family of Ethan Glover, House Glover, are also not lords, but are rather titled as Master of Deepwood Motte,[5] although characters sometimes mistakenly think of them as lords.[6][7] Thus, Jaime's claim that Jeffory Mallister was the son of a lord could be a misrecollection.
