Falena Stokeworth was a noblewoman of House Stokeworth during the reigns of kings Viserys I, Aegon II, Aegon III, Daeron I, Baelor I, Viserys II and Aegon IV Targaryen.[1]
Appearance and Character
In her youth, Falena Stokeworth was described as pretty and vivacious.[3]
History
Early life
Falena came to court during the early years of the reign of King Aegon III Targaryen, during which time she would sometimes play at dolls with young Queen Jaehaera Targaryen. Unfortunately, Queen Jaehaera died in 133 AC, allegedly by suicide. Afterwards, the Maiden's Day Ball was held at the Red Keep to find a second wife and new queen for King Aegon III Targaryen. Many maidens across Westeros came to King's Landing in hopes of marrying the young king. Falena was one of the many maidens who suffered what was called the "Maiden's Day curse" by being injured or scandalized after the ball was announced. In Falena's case, she took a tumble down the serpentine steps of the Red Keep and broke a leg. According to Archmaester Gyldayn, Lord Unwin Peake, the Hand of the King, may have engineered the fall to promote his own daughter as the king's second wife.[3]
Aegon the Unworthy
In 149 AC, Falena became the first mistress of Prince Aegon Targaryen, making him "a man" when the prince was fourteen. When a knight of the Kingsguard found them abed together in 151 AC, Aegon's father, Prince Viserys Targaryen, wed Falena to the master-at-arms at the Red Keep, Ser Lucas Lothston, and persuaded King Aegon III Targaryen to name Lucas as the Lord of Harrenhal in order to remove Falena from court. However, over the next two years, Aegon paid frequent visits to Harrenhal, and it was rumored that he was the father of Falena's daughter, Jeyne Lothston, not Lucas.[1]
In 172 AC, Prince Aegon succeeded to the Iron Throne as King Aegon IV. Falena brought her fourteen-year-old daughter to court in 178 AC. The king took Jeyne as his eighth mistress, and named Lord Lucas as Hand of the King. It was rumored but not proven that King Aegon enjoyed mother and daughter together in the same bed.[1] This possibly resulted in Lucas receiving the derogatory title "The Pander".[4][N 1] However, Aegon soon gave Jeyne a pox he had caught from the whores he had seen after Lady Bethany Bracken's execution, and the Lothstons were all sent away from court again.[1]

- ↑ It is unclear whether Lucas Lothston, Falena's husband, is the same character as the Lucas Lothston called the Pander.[4] However, a pander is a pimp,[5] which would be a logical aspersion after Falena and Lucas arranged for their daughter Jeyne to become the mistress of Aegon IV Targaryen, and especially since it was rumored Falena was also Aegon's lover at the same time.[1]
