Hobber Redwyne, mocked as Ser Slobber, is a knight from House Redwyne. He is the son of Paxter Redwyne, Lord of the Arbor, and Lady Mina Tyrell, and he is the younger twin to Ser Horas.[4]

Appearance and Character

Hobber is homely with orange hair and a square, freckled face.[1]

Hobber despises Samwell Tarly, the son of Lord Randyll Tarly.[5] Sansa Stark and Jeyne Poole mock Hobber and his brother, Ser Horas, as Ser Slobber and Ser Horror, respectively.[1] Queen Cersei Lannister is unable to tell the the twins apart[6] and does not consider them to be particularly intelligent.[7]

Hobber's has a chestnut mare[1] and a black stallion caparisoned in burgundy and blue.[8]

History

When Samwell Tarly was sent to the Arbor to become a page, Hobber and Horas teased and humiliated him. Hobber dressed a kitchen girl in his armor and allowed her to beat Sam with a wooden sword.[5]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Ser Hobber and his brother, Ser Horas, take part in the Hand's tourney in King's Landing.[9]

The twins remain in the capital after the death of King Robert I Baratheon,[10] and they are present for the execution of Lord Eddard Stark at the Great Sept of Baelor.[1]

A Clash of Kings

The Iron Throne keeps the Redwyne twins as hostages for the good behavior of their father, Lord Paxter Redwyne, during the War of the Five Kings.[11] Unlike other lords from the Reach, Paxter refrains from joining his forces to that of Renly Baratheon, the uncle and rival of King Joffrey I Baratheon.[12]

Hobber is unhorsed in the tourney on King Joffrey's name day by Ser Meryn Trant of the Kingsguard after breaking their first lances. Joffrey disapproves of the performance.[8]

Hobber and Horas attempt to sneak out of King's Landing by bribing a guard and sailing away on Moonrunner, but the plot is discovered by Lord Varys. Tyrion Lannister, the Hand of the King, has the guard seized and encouraged to join the Night's Watch, and the twins are placed under closer supervision.[13]

The twins are in attendance when Tyrion holds court in the throne room,[14] and they ignore Sansa Stark after the Battle of Oxcross.[15]

After Renly's death, Hobber is allowed to accompany Lord Petyr Baelish on his mission to recruit House Tyrell at Bitterbridge while Horas remains in captivity at the Red Keep.[16] This show of good faith allows Paxter to ride with the Tyrell host to defend the capital during the Battle of the Blackwater.[17] Paxter and his sons are among those honored in the throne room after the battle.[17]

A Storm of Swords

Sansa notices one of the Redwyne twins sparring with Ser Tallad the Tall in an inner yard of the Red Keep.[18]

Lord Tywin Lannister, now Joffrey's Hand, considers having his daughter, the widowed Queen Cersei Lannister, wed one of the Redwyne twins.[19]

Ser Hobber attends the wedding of Margaery Tyrell and King Joffrey I Baratheon, but the boy king is poisoned during the wedding feast.[20] Called as a witness for the prosecution in the Tyrion's trial for Joffrey's death, Hobber tells of how he saw Tyrion fill the wedding chalice.[21]

A Feast for Crows

Hobber, Horas, and their father Paxter attend Tywin's funeral at the Great Sept.[22]

According to Taena Merryweather, the twins are both in love with Queen Margaery, now the wife of King Tommen I Baratheon, forgetting their arguments over who will be the next Lord of the Arbor and instead wanting to join the Kingsguard just to be near her.[7] Hobber and Horas visit with Margaery often, with Hobber bringing fruit and flowers and Horas taking up the lute.[23] During one of Margaery's riding expeditions, the brothers escort Meredyth Crane and Janna Fossoway.[24] On another occasion, Queen Regent Cersei Lannister sees Ser Osmund Kettleblack sparring in the yard with one of the brothers.[6]

As part of her plan to remove Margaery, Cersei has the Blue Bard include the Redwyne twins among those alleged to have slept with the younger queen. So as not to lose the support of Redwyne fleet,[25] Cersei intends for the brothers to be falsely accused. Arrest warrants are signed for Hobber and Horas, and they are given comfortable rooms in a tower.[26]

A Dance with Dragons

The Redwyne twins are declared innocent.[27]

Quotes

Poorly ridden.[8]

Joffrey I Baratheon to Hobber

So long as I hold those poxy twins of his, Lord Paxter will squat on the Arbor and count himself fortunate to be out of it.[12]
