A Dance with Dragons (mentioned)
Gwynesse's husband died during the sea battle off Fair Isle during Greyjoy's Rebellion in 289 AC. Following his death, Gwynesse returned to Ten Towers, where she has remained since. One of the towers of the castle was renamed the Widow's Tower in her honor. She believes that the castle should be hers since she is older than Lord Rodrik Harlaw, and constantly reminds her brother of this.
A Feast for Crows
Lord Rodrik Harlaw tells his niece, Asha Greyjoy, that his sister Gwynesse continues to mourn her husband as deeply as she did when he died. She has grown forgetful, however, and cannot always recall his name.
