The Elder Brother[1][2] or elder brother[3] is the senior contemplative brother at septries of the Faith of the Seven.[2] At septries where brothers take vows of silence, only the Elder Brother and his proctors may speak.[2]

[edit]A septry in the riverlands is sacked repeatedly during the War of the Five Kings. Thinking its Elder Brother has hidden gold, a monstrous attacker orders his men to kill the contemplative brothers one by one.[1]
A Feast for Crows
[edit]A septry near Maidenpool is attacked first by northmen and then by sellswords during the War of the Five Kings. Its elder brother hides some coins, and a dwarf brother takes the coins after the rest of his brothers are killed.[3]
Brienne of Tarth travels to the Quiet Isle and meets its Elder Brother, a former knight.[2]
