A goodwife is a woman of higher social standing who is not of the nobility. The term can also be used as a form of respect for smallfolk women.
History
Goodwives, fishermen, and fieldhands cheered loudly when King Aegon I Targaryen was crowned at the Aegonfort during Aegon's Conquest.[1]
The first fool to serve at the Red Keep was the Goodwife, a fat man who dressed as a woman.[2]

A Clash of Kings
Amabel and Harra are fierce old goodwives who supervise servants at Harrenhal.[3] After the fall of Harrenhal, Goodwife Harra is executed by House Bolton for having told Lady Shella Whent's household to serve House Lannister.[4]
A Storm of Swords
Maerie and Nolla are goodwives in the riverlands who are killed by Lannisters during the War of the Five Kings.[5]
A Feast for Crows
During her search for Sansa Stark, Brienne of Tarth speaks with a goodwife at Rosby.[6] Outside of Duskendale, Brienne addresses a woman on a turnip cart as goodwife.[7]
