"Lord Renly's Ride" is a song written by Hamish the Harper about the Battle of the Blackwater.
Lyrics
[edit]"Lord Renly's Ride" begins with the lyrics, "From his throne of bones the Lord of Death looked down on the murdered lord."[1] The song then has the ghost of Renly Baratheon repent from his attempt to usurp his nephew, King Joffrey I Baratheon. He defies the Lord of Death, returns to the land of the living to defend the realm from Stannis Baratheon, and then flies to Highgarden to see his true love's face one last time.[1]

[edit]Renly Baratheon, a claimant during the War of the Five Kings, is slain near Storm's End.[2] Renly's ghost, however, is said to fight against the host of Stannis Baratheon during the Battle of the Blackwater.[3][4]
A Storm of Swords
[edit]Hamish the Harper composes "Lord Renly's Ride" for the wedding of King Joffrey I and Margaery Tyrell, during which seven singers compete to win a a gilded lute with silver strings.[5][1] Margaery, who was married to Renly before his death, is teary-eyed by the song's end.[1]
Ser Jaime Lannister learns from Ser Loras Tyrell that "Renly's ghost" was actually Ser Garlan Tyrell, who wore Renly's armor during the battle on the suggestion of Lord Petyr Baelish to frighten Stannis's men-at-arms.[6]
