A Storm of Swords
Queen Regent Cersei Lannister commissions the seamstress to create a new gown for Sansa Stark, who has outgrown or lost much of her wardrobe. The seamstress measures Sansa and makes the girl blush after complimenting her bosom. Sansa assumes the new gown is being made for the upcoming wedding of King Joffrey I Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell, and she hopes to bring it with her when she goes to Highgarden to meet Willas Tyrell.[1]
Unbeknownst to Sansa, the Lannisters have learned of the Tyrell plot to marry her to Willas, and they decide that Sansa will instead marry Cersei's brother, Tyrion Lannister.[2]
When the new gown is ready, Cersei watches as the seamstress fits it to Sansa. The gown is ivory samite and cloth-of-silver, lined with silvery satin. The slashed bodice almost reaches Sansa's belly, with the vee covered with a panel of dove-grey Myrish lace. Its skirts are long and full, and its waist is very tight. Sansa is also given silk smallclothes and soft grey doeskin slippers. Sansa feels beautiful in her new attire, but is then shocked when Cersei reveals that she is to immediately marry Tyrion. Cersei orders Ser Meryn Trant and Ser Osmund Kettleblack to escort Sansa to the royal sept, warning the Kingsguard not to damage the expensive gown.[3]
