Behind the scenes

The character is named after the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, George Raymond Richard Martin.

The coat of arms of the character is an homage to four novels George wrote before A Song of Ice and Fire: the red giant and stars for Dying of the Light, the winged man for Windhaven, the bat for Fevre Dream and the lute for The Armageddon Rag.
