The gaoler is a small man with broken veins in his nose. He chains his keys to his studded leather belt.[1]

A Clash of Kings
Ser Jaime Lannister is moved from a tower cell to the dungeons of Riverrun after a failed escape attempt.[2] Before leaving for the Battle of the Fords, Ser Edmure Tully gives orders that no one is to see Jaime without his permission.[1] The gaoler initially refuses to allow Edmure's sister, Catelyn Stark, to visit Jaime, but she uses her authority as the daughter of Lord Hoster Tully to cow him into opening Jaime's cell for her. Catelyn orders the gaoler to return to his ale and pigeon pie while she interrogates Jaime.[1]
A Storm of Swords
Jaime recalls that Brienne had to overcome the gaoler when he tried to stop Brienne and Catelyn from leaving the dungeon with the freed prisoner.[3]
