Roland Blackwood was a member of House Blackwood during the reign of King Daeron II Targaryen.
History
Roland participated in the tourney at Ashford Meadow in 209 AC.[2][N 1] When Ser Duncan the Tall arrived at Ashford Meadow, he noticed Blackwood banners on the far western edge of the meadow, as distant from Ser Otho Bracken's tent as possible. Ser Steffon Fossoway mentioned Otho Bracken and the Blackwoods among a number of his friends that he might enlist to fight on Ser Duncan's side in his trial of seven, but admitted that Blackwood and Bracken would never fight on the same side. He offered to go speak to the friends he mentioned, athough he did not mention any of the Blackwoods' given names.[4]
Family
His relation to the main branch of House Blackwood is unknown. Roland may have been a third son, as his personal coat of arms depicted three weirwood trees on a scarlet field.[2]
Notes
- ↑ Roland is not listed as a knight, per the Blackwood tradition of worshiping the old gods. Although the tourney was reserved for knights only (The Hedge Knight), according to George R. R. Martin and Elio García allowances were made for the Blackwoods because of their high birth.[3]
