Arbor reds are red wines from the Arbor in the Reach. The wines can be sweet[1] or dry.[1] Arbor red was the favorite of King Aegon II Targaryen.[2]

History

King Aegon II Targaryen died when his Arbor red was poisoned, likely at the behest of Lord Larys Strong.[2]

Rich Arbor reds were served during the wedding tourney at Whitewalls.[3]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Arbor reds are among the wines offered to Daenerys Targaryen by a wineseller in the Western Market of Vaes Dothrak. When her identity is revealed, the wineseller tries to give her a dry Arbor red which he has secretly poisoned. Ser Jorah Mormont, aware of King Robert I Baratheon's attempts to kill Daenerys, interrupts the assassination attempt, however.[1]

A Clash of Kings

Tyrion Lannister uses a powder to poison the Arbor red of his sister, Queen Regent Cersei Lannister.[4]

The captains of Quicksilver and Greyhound offer Arbor red to Daenerys when she meets with them to discuss possible transport from Qarth.[5]

A Storm of Swords

During the wedding feast of King Joffrey I Baratheon and Margaery Tyrell, a cupbearer pours a flagon of dark Arbor red into the king's wedding chalice, and a drunken Joffrey later pours his chalice atop his uncle, Tyrion.[6] After ordering Tyrion to refill the chalice, Joffrey chokes to death while eating pigeon pie and drinking wine.[6] During Tyrion's trial for murder, he is accused by Grand Maester Pycelle of having poisoned the boy with the strangler.[7]

King Hizdahr zo Loraq sends Draqaz and Miklaz to bring him flagons of Arbor gold and red.[8]
