Recent Events
A Storm of Swords
Bannen is part of the great ranging in the lands beyond the Wall led by Lord Commander Jeor Mormont. He is a scout under Jarman Buckwell's command.[3]
Bannen participates in the scouting mission around the Milkwater led by Thoren Smallwood, during which he and Kedge Whiteye observe Mance Rayder's host.[2]
Due to his great tracking skills, Bannen is one of those chosen to die by the conspirators who intend to kill Lord Commander Mormont.[2] Chett plans to have Lark and his cousins murder Bannen.[2] However, their plans fail when wights attack the Night's Watch in the fight at the Fist.[1]
Kedge Whiteye later tries to save Bannen by chopping off his mangled foot at Craster's Keep. It is too late for the shivering scout, however, as he dies from his wounds nine days later. Bannen's body is burned at sunset, and Jeor leads his memorial.[1]
Quotes by Bannen
Bannen: I'm cold. Please, I'm so cold.
Craster: That one's dead. Be kinder to stick a knife in his chest than that spoon down his throat, you ask me.[1]—Bannen and Craster
Quotes about Bannen
He said he was cold. I hope he's gone someplace warm, I do.[1]
—Bedwyck to Samwell Tarly
—Jeor Mormont to the Night's Watch
Sam: Sick. The smell ...
Edd: Never knew Bannen could smell so good. I had half a mind to carve a slice off him. If we had some applesauce, I might have done it. Pork's always best with applesauce, I find.[1]
