The Bastard of Harrenhal was a bastard of House Lothston during the reign of King Daeron II Targaryen. His given name has not been published, although "Rivers" is the traditional surname for bastards of noble origin in the riverlands.
History
He was defeated by Ser Arlan of Pennytree in the melee at a tourney at King's Landing in 193 AC.[1]
In 209 AC, Ser Duncan the Tall was trying to prove his knightly status in order to participate in the tourney at Ashford, claiming that he was knighted by his late master, Ser Arlan of Pennytree. Lord Ashford said they had no proof of Arlan's existence or, if he did exist, that Duncan ever squired for him. However, Baelor "Breakspear" Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, stated that he recalled Ser Arlan, citing the tourney at King's Landing where he defeated the Bastard of Harrenhal, as well as from other tourneys. Prince Baelor asked Duncan further questions to prove his story, which he answered correctly.[1]
