Dacey Mormont is the heir of House Mormont. She is the daughter of Maege Mormont, Lady of Bear Island, and the niece of Jeor Mormont, Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.
Appearance and Character
Dacey is six feet tall,[3] lean,[4] and lanky.[3] She is comfortable both in lady's garb and in mail and leather. The black bear of House Mormont is on her shield and surcoat.[4] When Dacey wears a dress instead of a hauberk, she is quite pretty. Dacey is tall and willowy, with a shy smile that makes her long face light up. She is graceful both on the dance floor and in the training yard.[5]
Although Catelyn Stark feels that Dacey's choice of garb is strange for a lady, Catelyn also thinks that she appears more comfortable as both a warrior and a woman compared to Brienne of Tarth.[5]
History
At an age when most girls would receive dolls, Dacey was given a morningstar.[3]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Dacey rides south with her mother, Lady Maege Mormont, against the Lannisters with Robb Stark, with Dacey being numbered among Robb's battle companions and personal guards during the battle in the Whispering Wood. Some of Robb's lords complain about a woman being in his guards, but Catelyn Stark rebukes them, stating that Robb's protection is the most important thing.[3]
A Storm of Swords
Dacey, one of Robb's sworn swords,[6] is among the northern nobles who march to the Twins to attend the wedding between Lord Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey, and then to recover Moat Cailin from the ironborn. En route, she tells Catelyn Stark about the hall of the Mormonts and Lynesse Hightower.[4]
Dacey is one of the Robb's guards during the wedding feast at the Twins, and she dances with the king during the festivities. Edwyn Frey's refusal to dance with Dacey is one of the last signs of tension before the Freys attack their guests in the Red Wedding. Dacey manages to fend off Ser Benfrey Frey, smashing a flagon of wine in his face, but she is killed when Ser Ryman Frey drives his longaxe into her belly.[5]
A Feast for Crows
Benfrey is reported to have died from a wound received at the Red Wedding.[6]
A Dance with Dragons
Alysane Mormont speaks of her sister's murder to Asha Greyjoy.[7]
