Halys Hornwood[N 1] is Lord of the Hornwood and head of House Hornwood. He is the husband of Lady Donella Manderly and the father of a trueborn heir, Daryn, and a natural son, Larence Snow.[3]

[edit]Lord Halys goes to Winterfell when Robb Stark calls the banners in response to the arrest of Eddard Stark. He gives gifts to Robb in hopes that he will give him leave to dam the White Knife, hunting privileges north of a ridge, and a holdfast taken from his grandfather.[4]
Catelyn Stark sees Lord Hornwood's pavilion when she arrives at Moat Cailin. Halys bows and leads the northern bannermen in departing the Gatehouse Tower when Catelyn wishes to speak privately with Robb.[5]
Lord Hornwood is sent with Lord Roose Bolton when the northern army splits at the Twins, and he is killed during the battle on the Green Fork.[2] Halys's son and heir, Daryn, is slain at the battle in the Whispering Wood around the same time as Halys.[6]
A Clash of Kings
[edit]Lady Donella Hornwood rules House Hornwood after the deaths of her husband and son.[7] Bran Stark, Ser Rodrik Cassel, and Maester Luwin discuss the possibility of Halys's bastard, Larence Snow, becoming the new heir.[7]
Ramsay Snow, Roose Bolton's bastard, claims the lands of House Hornwood after forcibly marrying Lady Donella. Ramsay then starves Donella to death in a locked tower.[8]
