Lord Bar Emmon was the Lord of Sharp Point and the head of House Bar Emmon during the Dance of the Dragons. He was a member of the blacks, the faction supporting Rhaenyra Targaryen and her claim to the Iron Throne.[1]

History

Lord Bar Emmon ruling in o supported Laenor Velaryon's claim in the Great Council.[2][3][4]

After the death of King Viserys I Targaryen, the Greens, those in the royal court who supported the ascension of his eldest son Prince Aegon to the Iron Throne over his designated heir Rhaenyra Targaryen, the Princess of Dragonstone, kept his death secret and plotted for Aegon´s coronation and the war that may follow. Aegon´s grandfather Ser Otto Hightower judged that amongst those who would support Rhaenyra would be Lord Bar Emmon, in part because a Lord Bar Emmon had supported a female claimant to the throne, Princess Rhaenys (and latter and Rhaenys´ son Laenor Velaryon ), in the Great Council of 101 AC.[2][N 1]

After the conflict between the Blacks and the Greens came to war, a war that became known as the Dance of the Dragons, Lord Bar Emmon was indeed among those that answered Rhaenyra´s summons. As a direct vassal of Dragonstone, the Lord of Sharpstone became a member of the black council of Queen Rhaenyra, a part of a dozen lesser lords and bannermen made part of the council.[1][2]

After the greens' victory at the Battle of the Honeywine, which occurred just a fortnite following the devastating naval Battle of the Gullet which saw the death of Rhaenyra´s heir Prince Jacaerys Velaryon, defeatism began to spread amongst the Black´s court. Lord Bar Emmon went so far as to suggest bending their knees to Rhaenyra´s rival King Aegon II. Queen Rhaenyra dismissed his advise, however, telling the black council that she would “rain down fire and death upon Aegon and all those who supported him, and either tear him from the Iron Throne or die in the attempt.”[5]

Notes

  1. ↑ It´s unclear wether the same Lord Bar Emmon who supported Rhaenyra´s claim during the Dance of the Dragons supported Rhaenys and her son during the Great Council of 101AC, or if it was a predecessor to the Lord.
