Master

Master is a noble rank in the North and the Iron Islands, where the institution of knighthood has virtually no presence. Masters are ranked below lords and are equivalent to southron landed knights.[1]

Known examples

Among the cadet branches of House Harlaw, the Harlaws of Grey Garden are an exception as the current head, Ser Harras Harlaw, is an actual knight and is thus entitled to the style "Knight of Grey Garden."

Note that some houses in the south use the style "Master" as a secondary title (i.e. House Velaryon, Lords of the Tides and Masters of Driftmark), but this is only a personal preference rather than being indicative of rank.
