The old farmer is a farmer from near Maidenpool in the riverlands. His given name is unknown.
Appearance
[edit]The farmer is an old man married to a woman twenty years younger than him. They have a daughter.[1]
Recent Events

[edit]During the War of the Five Kings, northmen abduct the couple's daughter and their ox. The daughter, having been raped by the northmen, eventually returns after the battle at Duskendale. The ox never does, so the farmer assumes it was eaten.[1]
The old man and his wife decide to sell eggs in Maidenpool as cooks will be making cakes for the upcoming wedding of Dickon Tarly and Eleanor Mooton. Brienne of Tarth and Podrick Payne encounter the couple as they pull their oxcart with difficulty on the rutted Duskendale road leading to Maidenpool.[1]
When the four travelers reach the gatehouse of Maidenpool, a Serrett serjeant decides to take the eggs for himself, flinging pennies as the farmer's feet. When the farmer's wife objects, the serjeant orders his men to bring her to him. Brienne rides forth to protect the woman from rape, leading her to be surrounded. Ser Hyle Hunt emerges from the gatehouse and calms the situation, however, and he sends the farmers on to the market to find the steward of Lord Randyll Tarly.[1]
