The Village Hero is the working title of the fourth or fifth novella in the Dunk and Egg series. George R. R. Martin has stated that he does not know which will be finished first, this story or the novella with the working title The She-Wolves of Winterfell. He has said he will not know more about completing either novella until he has finished The Winds of Winter.[1][2] As of 2014, work on the novella had not yet begun, and the story remained only "roughed out" in Martin's head.[1] Martin also has notes and ideas for additional novellas in the series, which may be finished out of chronological order.[3]
