Tsunami

A tsunami, watery walls,[1] or wall of water,[2] is a gigantic wave.

History

The hammer of the waters, a Westerosi legend that claims the children of the forest used dark magic in attempts to stop the First Men from invading Westeros, first using the hammer to shatter the Arm of Dorne into the Stepstones and the Broken Arm, and then again to flood the Neck,[3][4][5] might actually have been tsunamies.

During the First Turtle War, the Rhoynar emerged victorious over the Valyrians when their water wizards called up the power of the river Rhoyne and proceeded to flood Volon Therys. If the tales can be believed, half the city was washed away.[1] In the Second Spice War, the exact same scenario unfolded again when water wizards raised enormous waterspouts against the Valyrians' three dragons in the battle at Volon Therys, causing the Rhoyne to flood the city. It was said that the Rhoynish cities were protected by "watery walls" that would rise to drown any foe.[1]

On the day of the Doom of Valyria, a wall of water three hundred feet high destroyed two cities on the Isle of Cedars, Ghozai in the north and Velos in the south, sweeping the former's ancient brick walls and stepped pyramids, as well as the latter's marble palaces, drowning hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children in the process. No one in Ghozai lived to tell the tale, but Velos had survivors: Fisherfolk who had been at sea, and a handful of Velosi spearmen posted in a stout stone tower on the highest hill, who had seen the hills and valleys beneath them turn into a raging sea.[2] There is another ruin on a small island just west of the Isle of Cedars.[6]
