Xaro's home is the residence of the merchant prince Xaro Xhoan Daxos in the city of Qarth. Xaro calls it a manse,[1] while Daenerys Targaryen considers it a palace.[2]
Layout
[edit]The home of Xaro Xhoan Daxos in Qarth is a vast building much larger than the manse of Illyrio Mopatis in Pentos.[2] One wing has its own gardens, a scrying tower, and a warlock's maze. Its private chambers have floors of green marble and walls draped with colorful silk hangings. A marble bathing pool in the shade of a portico is stocked with tiny golden fish.[2]
Xaro has a seneschal[3] and slaves in his service.[1] Beautiful boys clad in wisps of silk surround the merchant prince in his palace.[4] His complex has stables.[3]
History
[edit]Xaro Xhoan Daxos once hosted at his manse a merchant from Meereen who trades in spices and wines.[1]
Recent Events
[edit]A Clash of Kings
[edit]Xaro Xhoan Daxos offers the hospitality of his home to Daenerys Targaryen and her khalasar during her stay in Qarth, giving Daenerys her own wing of the palace. Daenerys gives orders to have her own people guard the wing, with special attention given to her three young dragons, Drogo, Rhaegal, and Viserion. When she relaxes in the marble pool, its fish nibble at her skin. When Quhuru Mo later meets with Daenerys, she greets him from a mound of cushions.[2]
Numerous guests come to see Daenerys as word of her dragons spreads. Xaro ensures that each seeker offer tribute, though Daenerys sells all except for a crown given to her by the Tourmaline Brotherhood.[4]
In the aftermath of the destruction of the House of the Undying, Xaro offers to wed Daenerys in an attempt to gain her dragons. Daenerys declines, however, and decides to leave the city after surviving an assassination attempt by a Sorrowful Man at the port of Qarth.[3]
A Dance with Dragons
[edit]Xaro travels to visit Daenerys, who is now Queen of Meereen. On the banks of the Skahazadhan he sees the spice and wine merchant who had once stayed at his manse. The merchant lost his fortune after the fall of Meereen, and now helps dig a ditch for irrigation in return for food and shelter.[1]
