Hobb the Hewer was a woodsman who gained fame during the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons.[1]
History
[edit]During the Storming of the Dragonpit, Hobb managed to slay Shrykos when he leapt on the dragon's neck, driving his axe into the beast's skull as Shrykos tried to shake him off. Hobb locked his legs around the dragon's neck and continued to rain blows on its skull, calling out the names of the Seven. The seventh blow (known as the Stranger's blow) ended Shrykos's life.[1]
Grand Maester Munkun wrote that Hobb slew the dragon Syrax as well, but most historians concur this is highly unlikely. It is unknown if Hobb survived the collapsing of the Dragonpit.[1]
Behind the Scenes
[edit]Hobb the Hewer and Three-Finger Hobb may have been named by George R. R. Martin after author Robin Hobb, whose writing Martin has admired.[2][3]
