Harrag Hoare was a High King of the Iron Islands from House Hoare.^[1] Ravos the Raper was his son.^[2]

History

According to Aeron Greyjoy, Harrag was chosen by a kingsmoot.^[1]^{[N 1]} Unlike many kings of his time, Harrag's reign resembled those of the reavers of the Age of Heroes.^[3]

During the reign of Theon Stark, the King of Winter known as the Hungry Wolf, Harrag led a fleet of longships from Great Wyk, Old Wyk, Pyke, and Orkmont against the western coast of the north. Harrag conquered the Stony Shore and burned swathes of the wolfswood, while Bear Island became a base for reaving for Harrag's son, Ravos the Raper. Theon slew Ravos with his own hand, however, and expelled the ironmen from his shores.^[2]

Although Harrag's invasion was repulsed, the ironborn would return during the reign of Harrag's grandson, King Erich the Eagle.^[2]

However, the section "The Iron Islands: The Black Blood" suggests that Harrag Hoare reigned as a hereditary King of the Iron Islands some decades or centuries after Hagon Hoare and the subsequent Famine Winter, while still retaining the reference to his conflicts with Theon Stark.^[3] This is likely an error, as it is further mentioned in the section "The North: The Kings of Winter" that Loron Greyjoy, another elected High King, reigned after Harrag Hoare.^[2]
