Stiv is a deserter of the Night's Watch.[1] In the television adaptation Game of Thrones, he is portrayed by Stephen Don.
Appearance
[edit]Stiv is a big man, bald and with a raw, windburned face.[1]
The deserter's clothes are filthy and faded, and he has a ragged black cloak.[1] Stiv sheathes a dagger at his belt.[1]
History

Recent Events
[edit]A Game of Thrones
[edit]Stiv and Wallen, deserters from the Night's Watch, travel south of the Wall with Osha, Hali, and two unnamed wildling men. The group attempts to rob Bran Stark when the boy is left unattended during a hunt in the wolfswood. Stiv demands the heavy silver pin which fastens the boy's cloak, and he wounds Bran's thigh when cutting the straps that secure the youth to his horse, Dancer.[1]
However, Robb Stark and the direwolves Summer and Grey Wind return to rescue Bran. Grey Wind kills Wallen and an unnamed wildling, while Summer kills Hali. Robb kills a wildling wielding an axe, and disarms Osha. Stiv pulls Bran to the ground and holds a dagger to his throat, demanding that Robb kill the direwolves. Before the hesitating Robb can act, Theon Greyjoy kills Stiv with a well-placed arrow to his chest from behind. Osha surrenders to the Starks. Instead of being thankful toward Theon, Robb criticizes him for risking Bran's life with the shot. Robb orders his guards to hack off the heads of the fallen so they can be sent to the Wall, with their bodies left behind for carrion crows.[1]
Osha begins working in the kitchens of Winterfell. She allows Gage to sleep with her, finding the cook to be gentler than Stiv had been.[1]
A Clash of Kings
[edit]Theon thinks of Stiv as having been a wildling,[3][4] and recalls the man had carried nothing of value for Theon to take.[3]
Theon has a nightmare of eating with the dead, including Stiv, after his capture of Winterfell.[5]
