Dalbridge, called Squire Dalbridge, is a veteran ranger of the Night's Watch stationed at the Shadow Tower.[3]
Appearance and Character
[edit]Dalbridge is an older man regarded as a great archer with his longbow.[4] He is said to have the keenest eyes in the Night's Watch.[5]
History
[edit]Dalbridge is nicknamed Squire Dalbridge because in the spring of his youth he squired for a king;[4] according to a semi-canon source this was King Jaehaerys II Targaryen.[2]
Recent Events
[edit]A Clash of Kings
[edit]Squire Dalbridge is part of the one hundred men from the Shadow Tower who join the great ranging at the Fist of the First Men.[6]
Dalbridge is chosen by Qhorin Halfhand alongside Ebben, Stonesnake and Jon Snow to scout the Skirling Pass to search for wildlings.[6]
When Qhorin's group is discovered by the wildlings, Dalbridge stays behind to hold them off while the others make their escape; Dalbridge asks them to give his garron an apple when they are home safe.[5] When they later hear a far-off horn, they realize that Dalbridge has been killed.[7]
